Thoughts on 26470ST

I've been collecting for about five years now and have been lusting for a RO for about two. I'm a bit tired of waiting (almost 2 years) and am at the point where I just want an AP. What are your thoughts on this ROO and ROO's in general? Will this get my foot in the door so to speak?

I prefer RO more than ROO because I like the look of the bracelet.

Which RO model are you waiting for? Most 15450st or 15500st should be able to get less than 2 years.

Some additional info would probably be useful in eliciting responses (location, AD or BT, which RO,...). Planning to keep the ROO? If the idea is to "start a relationship" with a particular boutique, it's probably best to ask them directly.

I think the 26470st is nice; among the 42mm ROOs I would go 26470SO.OO.A002CA.01 (Vampire) for the ceramic bezel or 26237 (Beast 25th anniversary - I actually got this one last year). The 44mm 26400IO.OO is also very nice, although quite different IRL compared to the AP renders or most photographs.

I understand your current initial reluctance about ROOs; however, in my case, and in all the cases I’ve seen of AP collectors, the ROO is inevitably addictive. In reality IMHO they are very cool/rugged while demonstrating the horological mastery of AP despite such a large “in your face” model. Of course, this last comment depends on which ROO one gets and their wrist dimensions. Regarding the 26470st, those are very nice 42mm ROOs, with the Vampire and Elephant being nice options. But I think the more current 42mm offerings with ceramic bezel (eg Ghost) are also very very nice. Ultimately, to your question, if you buy a ROO from a boutique, then yes it does open the door to other pieces. Still, as Vogel points out in his response, this does all depend on your boutique location since my experience in larger city is that they want you to demonstrate a sort of “customer loyalty” by being a repeat customer before getting you the very competitive pieces. Still, a straightforward discussion with the boutique is to your advantage, with the fair expectation being that if you buy a ROO from them then you should be able to get one of the basic RO models within a couple years. Again, these timelines and experiences really do differ between geographic locations and cities.
I hope this helps a bit. Good luck in your efforts.

Have you looked at the ROC 26331? It is an amazingly under lusted after piece IMHO and not too hard to get. In ROO there is a ton of cool back catalog models that are more unique like the Ginza in gold, carbon or SS, which I think is cool. Also I really like the AP diver.

Going to buy a Batman ap roo chrono 26470ST from AP east Hampton today. I will try for a discount since it seems these are not as loved as other ROOC’s. I believe it will wear well as I have large wrists (big bones). I really want a RO 41mm blue or black dial. I will look into the ROC 26331.

Congrats! Looks fantastic. You have the wrist for it too. Not many people can pull off the ROO.
