Aftermarket dial?

I've been browsing the ladies DJ's, might get one for my wife. Is it wrong to advertise Rolex if it has an aftermarket dial, like claimed here? I assume an aftermarket dial can not print the Rolex name.

As far as I know an after market dial of one that was originally a Rolex dial and alterations have been applied. I don't think a completely made up new dial can use Rolex of the coronet.

Yes, my understanding as well.

Dave, I believe you are correct sir. Typically these dials start off as the genuine thing and alterations such as the addition of diamonds are done later by a jeweler.

Thanks for the info guys, appeciate it. Another question. I guess this kind of alteration would not fly at RSC? That is, if sent in for service.

I have a feeling (not sure on this) if the brilliant set diamonds are close to what Rolex would supply and its done by an absolute professional then the Rolex RSC may let it pass, otherwise if the dial was damaged or workmanship not up to scratch enough to detract from the look of the watch then Rolex would confiscate the dial and replace with the OEM standard and you may get the aftermarket dial back on request.

Most of the times these are ordered from the AD when the watch is ordered or purchased, you can do it with pretty much any Rolex :-) By memory for the first 12 months you can even return to the AD and have a different dial of equal value swapped for minimal cost or even free, or if you wanted to go the brilliants on a dial that can be ordered and installed within that first year with the only costs of the workmanship and extra materials, unless that has changed with the new economic climate. Have had a few friends and colleagues do this years ago.

You know, the alternative is, if you want to get the watch serviced then use a Rolex Certified non-RSC watchmaker. There are several who are on this forum who have Rolex parts accounts and will service the watches, even with aftermarket dials and bezels. They do just as good of a job, and sometimes better than what comes out of RSC (depends on who you ask, we've had some people who were not happy with their RSC experience and others who were).

Thanks for the info Frank. I will find out about the RSC Dallas, my GMT is there now, expect to get it back a week or two. Just want to make sure if I don't buy from AD that I know what I am getting into.

Dallas serviced my Submariner and they did an awesome job!
