Possibly, but not for a while yet I don’t think.

The Mk1 v Mk2 dial debate is only really a ‘thing’ on Internet forums such as TRF - ask a regular joe in the street & they won’t have a clue what your talking about.

Thinking about it though, thats probably also true for the flat 4 Subs so I’m probably talking waffle... lol

I think they will discontinue the red text and the Mark 1 will be the one to have.

I will not sell mine. It is a great watch, especially knowing the Mk1 was only made for about a year.

The way it works today is to keep pushing a theory or rumor on sm and eventually people will be influenced by it.
If you wait forty years though, mk1 or mk2....it'll be super rare. One thing though, it ain't no Sub and aside from the four digits Sea-Dwellers have never been too popular.

Yes, may take 20 years, but will happen in my opinion. Your children or grandchildren will be happy. Even you if you're young. The pricing does not reflect anything right now, but they are starting to disappear from greys. Some more candidates for appreciation, and collectability, but maybe not to the level of Flat 4 are these for different reasons. Rolex is producing so much that these small difference in writing, bezel, dial, even bracelet will matter in the future. Rolex collectors are adding these to their collections and more will do that in the future.

1. Pepsi Mk1 (bezel color)
2. Oyster Batman 116710 BLNR (first bicolor ceramic bezel)
3. Current Air King (special dial)
4. Z Blue GV Milgauss (special dial and glass)
5. Explorer II Polar (especially if a new ceramic comes out)
6. Submariner Hulk (special dial)
7. Black Black Black GMT II 116710 LN (no more full black bezel for GMT)
8. Meteorite GMT (If it's true what they say of limited meteorite with Rolex)

I own the hulk, what do you mean by special dial, could you elaborate?

It's the only and first green ceramic bezel and green dial steel Sub, and is discontinued. Rolex most probably won't produce this combination on a steel Sub in the future. Green bezel and dial on gold Sub is a big possibility in future in my opinion.

You never know. If any of these was produced for less time it may be a thing in the future too. Even for the SD43 Mk1 the 2019 onwards dated cards may be more collectable , anything can happen with Rolex, the rarer the better .

Actually there are differences in text with Hulk, though haven't seen them categorized as MKs as they were random changes over the span of Hulk production

Same can be said for many other models which were short lived, like 214270 MK1 (short hands), DJ II etc.

Short lived? 214270 Mk1 and DJ II was over 6 and 7 years in production. Is that short lived?

Agreed.

the SD4k 116600 would be on this list obviously..... as would the 1st generation Deepsea James Cameron as the bracelet and case dimensions changed on the Gen 2.

Well depends if you buy hype instead of using common sense.

What social media, most today are getting to be very un-social media sites. But afraid many today rely on these sites, as some today have lost their own brain power to think for themselves. There are two types of collectors today there are the serious Rolex collectors not many of these left now, and the Internet hype Rolex collector. Now whether one Rolex will be collectible because of a few cosmetic details falls into what collector you are.

on the other side of this, if you're selling based on Padi's common sense instead of using actual market value, a.k.a. "hype", you might just sell yourself short... by thousands. In the case of the flat 4 it could be over 10k.

IMO the SD43 MK1 dial will eventually be valued higher than the others, but based simply on the general popularity and demand of the SD vs, let's say a sub or GMT, I don't think it will increase in value at the same rates as the flat 4.

If they discontinue the model or remove the red line, all bets are off. The value might sky rocket.

The only thing we know for sure is that no one knows anything for sure.

X2.. Owned it, left it go due to uncomfortable. Its really just a big Sub and has my title of being THE most uncomfortable Rolex I have ever owned. Its case back design creates issues with many. A flatter case back and the SD43 would be a lot more popular as a daily dive watch.

Have had mine 3 years now. My all time favourite and still wear my GMT LN and JC on some occasions.
Future value and Mark 1 or 2.

Have to say I’m not really interested.
Never going to sell anyway.

Just keep and enjoy.👍
