new rolex requirements

This is crazy

I have history with my AD in the UK bought a TT daytona only last week and have another watch for the wife on order, I showed interest in the new GMT with Oyster Bracelet and they are saying Rolex are insisting for any new 2021
models I have to go to the AD to register in person, the details they already have for me on file

Its just a watch, they can keep it

They need you to come in to get you one of the most popular models? Oh the horror! Poor you.

They’ll have to “keep” that watch so long now!

You seem pleasant yourself chief. Always amuses me when people who have a little bit of money act like something so minor is a big inconvenience. And that they’re just above it all. I mean they should bend over backwards for you! You just bought a TT Daytona. That’s big money!

But yeah blame covid. You’re just entitled.

Cheers

its a shame you dont seem to understand, I am not asking them to bend over backwards for me, just think it is pointless, and I am certinally not above it all,
maybe that chip on shoulder is just to heavy.

The OP’s opening post does kind of read that way, I spend money, I shouldn’t have to put up with this. However, that’s after making some harsh assumptions. Maybe give him a break.

The AD’s logic doesn’t add up. He’s shown himself to be a serious buyer and not a tire kicker. At the same time, a drive-in does show commitment. I can see it both ways.

Rolex are insisting on nothing. Your AD is trying to manage demand. It's easy to get people off the phone or out of their face if they blame Rolex.

What's wrong with going in and talking about it, if your AD won't accept a phone or written request? If their list isn't miles long you might get on. Same as the rest of us.

I have just had the same, maybe worse, I have just been told I can only have a maximum of 3 watches on order at anyone time and they must be from different product families, its life with Rolex and we just need to put up with it.

Why would anyone need more than 3 watches on order at any one time?

Gotta admit that, with the prices on the grey market, it's certainly something many have thought about.

Because some of us are still waiting for watches we ordred 5, 6 years ago, AD's have confirmed there is a 5 to 10 year wait for a some Rolex Watches.

Probably those are sought after models which have been released in some years interval and those earlier ordered watches haven't been yet arrived.

This sounds like a good policy. It weeds out the people that just want to buy any watch that's hard to get.

Well, every little helps. One less taker might knock two seconds off the average wait time.

OP - if you want it that bad then get listed and wait. If you can't wait then go grey. I bought two of my Rolex watches grey because I couldn't get listed anywhere. No regrets. If neither of these options appeals, you can avail yourself of thousands of high quality alternatives or just stay somewhat richer.

What you should not do is settle for something else. You'll just wait longer and pay more.

You are right I am in no rush, and just to be clear this was just to get on the list not collect the actual watch, it was only an enquiry I have bought gray in the past so will wait and see

I don't think that's too unreasonable from the AD given the shift in demand. Popping in to keep the relationship going is going to be well worth it in the long term and also proves you're a decent person who doesn't have airs on themself. I heard today of a big spender who essentially gets first refusal of any rare Rolex that arrives in one dealership in a large Australian city. Flips them in other cities so as to not get caught. Gravy train continues and others never get a look in. Some more compassionate ADs are trying to level the playing field a bit and give the lower-level Rolex fans at least a fighting chance of being on the list for a watch. Others may disagree but I don't think it's too harsh.

Personally I like popping into my AD and having a little chat while filling in the card. They must get a hundred emails or phone calls a day for the SS GMT. I don’t think popping in there is too much to ask.

I get it but I enjoy going to my AD and I would just do what they ask. You never know what you might find or be presented with. At worst you will get your name down and at best you may make some progress at getting a watch you want.
