Do you think/want Tudor to make a ceramic watch?
Many watch manufacturers have been making ceramic watches (cases) for many years however Rolex has not done so. I realize that Rolex is extremely conservative and may never do this but looking at Tudor they have no made watches in steel, titanium, silver, bronze and PVD. I think it would be really cool if they make a ceramic diver. Maybe a ceramic Pelagos?

No, ceramic just leaves me cold. The one exception is the matte finish on the blue Pelagos bezel, which combined with the perfect shade of blue, excludes a refreshing cool mint vibe.

Completely forgot about that! I think their design language has evolved significantly since the fastrider days so could be interesting ti see a ceramic diver.

I will never understand people who take time to post on a thread to tell us all that they do not care about this topic. There are tens of topics I don't care about every day yet I somehow manage to just move on to the next thread that interests me.

No, I am most definitely not. I started this thread so I am answering the people who took the time to tell me they did not care for my post. I think any reasonable person can see that that is significantly different than posting on random threads that I do not care about the topic.

#irony Given that I’m amongst those who weighed in above and presume you’re speaking about my post and others like it, I’ll clarify that it’s not the existence of the thread I’m personally ambivalent towards, or the prospect of discussing it. You asked whether people want/care whether Tudor makes a ceramic watch. If you don’t want to know what people think, what was the point of bringing up the topic, again? I have devoted 0% of my waking hours desiring a piece of that ilk, so my post was responsive to the prompt. However, I also wouldn’t take it as a personal affront if there are in fact people who have spent time wanting such a watch to exist. There’s room for all tastes. To clarify my personal view though, I like that Tudor makes thinks like stainless steel-cased watches with aluminum bezel inserts, and that’s why I picked up the 58 and GMT. Kind of old school and I dig it, and it seems to keep prices accessible, which I think is cool. |

Panerai does ceramic very well. AP does even better. Rolex could easily justify one. In fact, I'd argue a ceramic Explorer would've been more fitting/special for a 50th anniversary. Even with Ceramic's fragility in large bumps.

I think it could be cool. I'm not a fan of dark or PVD finishes like the above Fastrider, but I like lighter ceramic watches like Omegas Grey Side of the Moon. Some of the more polished facets look fantastic on that watch.
But I think it's more of a chrono thing. Are there any major ceramic dive watches? I wonder if that material isn't the best for the kind of compression a dive watch is supposed to endure. |

It’s not terrible. Realistically the type of impact that would shatter ceramic would likely equally incapacitate a steel watch. Remember, ceramic doesnt mean the frying pan in the kitchen. Or the plant pot in the garden. It’s an broad term that includes ceramic alloys potentially harder than 904l but those tend to be very pricey |

It would cause me to have a lot more care than I'm comfortable with in day to day life. I would say that this is the same as having a ceramic bezel on your Submariner, in the early days people sounded the alarm, they're so fragile, they cost thousands to replace, you can't change it yourself, etc... Today we see that it's basically unheard of to see a cracked ceramic bezel compared to the numbers of produced watches, there are outliers but it's basically a non issue. I suspect this is the same. For my needs and peace of mind I wouldn't dare spend a dime on a ceramic material watch, but I would definitely consider some of the watches in similar but more durable materials that Panerai is using, they are way ahead of the game of just basic ceramics. |

That damaged Grey Side of the Moon picture is years old. The impact required to do that is considerable, and you can be sure that it would’ve damaged a steel watch as well.
Yes ceramic can shatter, but it’s massively overblown as a potential problem. IMO the benefits of scratch resistance FAR outweigh the minuscule chance of shattering it. |
