Unexpected Sub Offer

I had my name down for the new M126610LV since they were announced. Thought I’d go into the dealer for a catch up chat.

Asked when it was likely I could get a watch, he told me they were only allowing people to purchase who had a spend history of £200k+ to get the new Submariners / GMTs etc.

I asked if he had any stock, he said he had a Sub No Date 124060. I then asked if I would be allowed the chance to buy it - he said yes but I would lose my place in the queue for the Sub Date model.

The price - £8,000 which is way over the recommended retail of £6450 (This is from a main dealer in the Middle East)

So do I take the no date or wait for the LV Date model - IF I’m get the chance or buy it.

I own both, both are great. The LV is beautiful but I feel the 124060, like any other submariner (not submariner date) is extremely balanced.

Only you know what you want. If you are dead set on the LV bc you love it, then wait. If you are just on the hype train.... well, I don’t know what to say. If you want the best sub maybe ever made, get the 124060.

I can’t comment on the price.

Can Rolex AD sell higher than MSRP? How much are they going to sell for the Sub Date LV?

If their price is as high as secondary market, you can get it somewhere else too.

You should buy only the watch that you really want not whatever they offered you.

OP have you spent 200K+? AD just told you who they'll be offering the LV to.

Having said that why do you want to pay over retail for ND from an AD either?

Go with third option and shop somewhere else.

An AD is selling new watches over MSRP? I think Rolex corporate would be interested to know more about that..

I was scrolling just waiting for anyone else to catch that! In direct violation of the ORJ Agreement.

His location says Scotland, but he says it’s an AD in the Middle East.

My guess is with exchange rate and UK VAT bringing it back home, it’ll cost him £8,000.

I didn’t read it as if the AD in the UK is trying to charge him £8,000...they’d be a big stupid doing that.

Maybe I’m wrong?

He won’t have been able to pop in for a chat due to lockdown so must be the Middle East

No worries if it's Rolex SA. Rolex USA and Rolex SA have different policies. Even if not official.

This always cracks me up. How would you feel if the AD discounted? (Standard practice before all the hype). Would you report them to Rolex?

It doesn't sound like the ND is a watch that you really want, so I'd pass.

Wow. I guess I really am a nobody. I literally cannot imagine spending 200k, not even across a dozen years... Wow.

He actually said that to you? that they were only allowing customers with a spend history of 210k+ to get on a list for a Sub? how tasteless and classless. I’ve never encountered such AD’s here in the U.S.

I'd buy grey market before spending £200k with that particular AD. Absurd. And over MSRP? Even more absurd.

I love the standard Sub, but it sounds like you are on the fence. For a watch that price, you should be totally in love with it, IMO.

200k in spend to get a sub, in what world? These ADs must be under the impression they have something rare for sale.

As it has already been said, better wait for the watch you really want, rather than get "what they have". 200k sounds outrageous, and selling over list...

no one needs to spend 200k in this world to get a sub, 5980/1R maybe, but not a sub

He actually said that to you? that they were only allowing customers with a spend history of 210k+ to get on a list for a Sub? ......then offered you one anyway.....doesnt make sense other than he was trying to make you feel special after spewing his BS and justify the premium....id shop elsewhere
