Rolex AD v OB

Just wanted to share a thought on my experience this week with an Omega Boutique and how it compares with a Rolex AD. I am on the list for Speedmaster 321 and went into the OB for a chat and a browse. Got talking about watches and he learned I was a genuine collector of all makes of watches. We talked about my Omegas and he took my details and said he would see if he could help with my 321. I have been waiting around 6 months. Got a call 3 days later saying I can have one, someone passed. I pick it up this weekend.

When I compare that to my Rolex AD, it feels like Omega will help when they know you are a serious collector. I could have Eric Clapton's collection and my Rolex AD wouldn't care I don't think. They are just interested in how much I will spend with them. I have a service history with Omega Boutiques but not a buying history.

Just a thought folks and I think the difference is because you are buying direct from the manufacturer, not the broker. I still and always will love Rolex watches however!

Interesting take. I am on the list for the 321, but I have zero hope to be honest. How do you like yours?

Perhaps a silly question but given the 321's price and how it's difficult to obtain, do you plan on wearing it as a daily (with all the dings and scratches that entails) or a "special occasion" type of watch? I was listening to a Hodinkee podcast a while back and one of the gents went on to say something like "321 is the perfect watch but I'd rather get a regular speedy so as to not worry about damaging it" It's a shame to not wear it but at same time I totally get the sentiment.

It will be a special occasion watch. I have a moonwatch as well so I will wear that a lot more.

Nice. I babied my Skydweller for a few months but now I'm in the "sh!t happens and I'm not selling so meh" camp. I wonder if I'd be so relaxed with a 321. Thx for your response

I stopped at the ob in NYC and they were very nice. Not to say that Rolex people aren't nice, they are, but it sure is a better experience going somewhere that has product to sell.
