Thanks for the great times good bye

I wanted to wish you all well and thank you all for your time and input. I am leaving the site as I was told my photo of a .223 Colt rifle was not allowed. I had the photo on all of my postings. It is a stock photo of a Colt .223 and I enjoy target shooting as a sport. I don’t hunt animals as I don’t eat them.

I can't understand this "new rule" since I have been reading the forum for years I thought this was odd as there have been many photos of Rolex watches with knifes, guns, cars you name it.

If the moderators. are going to remove my photos because "they" have a problem with it I guess this is their problem not mine.

It is sad when censorship is based upon a personal bias. Is some one really scared of a photo of a gun??? I don't wish to cause a riot I just felt I would not go quietly.

JJ I will miss your postings as I have become quite fond of your views. God bless.

Note to moderators. you should get rid of the smiles with the guns yep this one as there are guns and it might scare someone too

Padi Edit.
Well if you read the very simple rules of TRF which clearly states no guns or Knives etc.We are a watch forum
and there are plenty of gun forums around to to post guns etc.If you want to leave, well thats up to you, but rules are rules and will be strictly adhered too, and the rules are now several years old and come on : well thats just a smiley.

Rule Below very simple to understand.
6. CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS OR POSTS which have or may become disputative including such issues relating to political , race, culture, religion, sex, violence (towards persons or animals), will be subject to the final and absolute discretion of the Moderators to be locked and/or removed without notice to any member. No gun, knife, weapon threads or pictures of such since we are a worldwide forum and many members are not comfortable with this type of material.

There are nearly 25000 members on this Forum and IMO only a small % think the way you do.

Find a nice Firearms Forum.

Hey, relax buddy. I don't see the point of all this. TRF is a wonderful forum with some of the nicest guys and gals in the world on here - watches or no watches, who cares!!!

Thanks for your good wishes, but I urge you to carry on posting. This is a watch forum and gun threads have gotten a wee bit ugly in the past.....so you can't really blame the mods for banning all guns and knives threads.

Stay on and enjoy this wonderful place.

JJ

Very disapponted to read this. Maybe take a couple of days & rethink.

I often say this, but if you knew me, you would know I speak my mind & don't suffer fools gladly. One of the mods PM'd me once about something I wrote. The mod was extremely diplomatic & worded the PM very succintly with reasons why I was contacted. Unlike other forums when I have had emails from Mods ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS WHICH IN WRITING TERMS IS SHOUTING & written in very bad English.

Everyone has differences of opinions & that is what makes the world go round, but I can honsestly say with hand on heart this is the superior forum. It is open minded, diplomatically moderated & has great subsections. Can you imagine another watch forum welcoming other brands...?!

Take a couple of days out, come back read the jokes section, read the open discussion section & then rethink your position. This is a great forum, that's why I put my hand in my pocket every year & pay.

Whatever you decide, wishing you & your family the very best of health.

HEY MAN! hang out! dont leave! I own SEVERAL firearms...and I think the mods are simply trying to avoid having ANY member feel uncomfortable or offended. Some are pro-gun..some are not..but a watch forum IS NOT the place to discuss such a heated topic...and I think the mods are doing a great job keeping the debates on this forum either fun and light or about WATCHES. that is all...Im sure they dont mean for it to be taken personally....heck....we are even told to avoid political posts...anything that could ruffle some feathers is avoided..because i believe the mods have been around long enough to have a good idea where those kinds of threads will eventually "end up"..please stick around..we are a BIG family here...hope you will take all of this into consideration and when it all cools down..you can enjoy the comfort of this Big ol' sometimes crazy...sometimes bald, family!!!!

This is an international forum.

Weapons laws perhaps aren't as relaxed in other parts of the world and the folk that live in these parts might feel just as strongly against firearms as you do for them.

The problem with photos of firearms (or knives) is that any dicussion that follows usually descends into an argument with unfounded comments regarding nationality or right wing machismo etc.

The owners and moderators of this forum have taken the option to stop people posting pics as it should hopefully stop both anti or pro comments.

Simple really.

I for one applaud their stance.

I've seen all kinds of pic's where people post pic of knives and guns here so what's the deal.

Just hope you are not trying to stirr the pot,yes and they are removed in nearly every case we cannot
as mods be expected to read every single post. But as mods we do expect members to obey the rules of TRF its that simple.

For any society, community or forum to maintain cohesion and progress it has to have a set of rules.

Experience has over the years shown that there are hot topics (and photographs pertaining thereto). Such topics include religion, politics, nudity etc.

Every once in a while a member will take objection to their self-ordained right to post whatever they please being censored without regard to the rules, the cohesion and progress of the forum.

The member then typically creates a thread just like this one seeking public rebuke of the moderators and administrators for acting in the best interests of the wider population of the forum and for simply enforcing the rules that the particular member agreed to abide as a condition of joining and continuing to participate on this website.

The relevant member claims freedom of speech with little or no regard to the pre-existing rules under which 1,000's of other members happily abide.

First and foremost this is a watch related website and the rules have been developed over a number of years and thousands of posts to facilitate and promote that purpose and goodwill amongst its participating members.

The very fact that this thread was created is regrettable as it is evidence in itself of the kind of selfrighteous behaviour that experience has shown associates itself with the prohibited hot topics, in this case being guns.

I've learned the guys at Gunbroker.com forums don't care to discuss Rolex watches.
Stands to reason the collectors here aren't into guns.

Incorrect - in fact many people here collect them, including myself. Having said that, there is time and place to discuss them. Time is up to you, but place - not here. But maybe this will make you feel better!

and for 'pea shooters'

Sad to hear your reason for leaving this great site. Like many others, I have other interests and I share my interests with other like minded people in the appropriate forums elsewhere. I understand and thoroughly support the rules as I believe it makes TRF one of my favourite sites.

TRF is primarily a watch forum. I log on daily, sometimes several times a day, to learn about watches, enjoy the jokes and the friendly and amusing banter on the open discussion forum.

If you are still convinced you want to leave, then I wish you all the best.

I am a fan of weapons too but the rules are very clear. It doesn't help to debate the reason, the rules were set up before any of us were here. Talk watches here and guns somewhere else. Sounds simple.

My goodness - the rules are stated clearly, and have been restated time and again. I can't imagine why you are surprised and taking issue with them now, after a year and a half.

That's a shame.

I am an NRA member, a veteran and belong to any number of arms forums as well and can understand your position.

I also understand that people won't share all of my passions. Especially at the same time.

If you love fine watches, hang out a while.

Then find a gun forum and hang there to share that passion with likeminded individuals.

If you can't seperate the two...

Brian, your post is a perfect example of how this site is, both fairly and professionally, moderated. You gave some background facts to establish credentials, as related to the OP, and made a reasonable point. Your post is NOT trying to enter into a gun debate and thus, is within the spirit of the rules.

Ridiculous post. So what, you had a pic of a gun removed. It's a picture on the internet. It's not like someone said your view was wrong or that you are a militant trying to preach at everyone. Take a breather and realize that you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

If it is that important to you to have a .gif of a gun then maybe you do need to post solely at gun forums.
