Rolex started without winding

Hi one of my Rolex watches i swear is going after I picked it up. I haven’t worn it for ages or wound it. When I first it I got it had to wind it to get it working. But today after I held it in my hand for a little while to look at it seems to start working. I understand it’s automatic but does it start working after such limited movement eg picking it up and moving it a bit. I thought it needed much more movement then that.

I own a 40+ year old 5513 and 1675. One quick flick of the wrist for either one of them and they are off and running. My 216570 Exp II takes roughly 20 full turns of the crown to get it started.

Wow I thought it would need much more this is a 2019 I have never worn it since buying just picked it up to look at it maybe moved it a bit and started I thought it would need more than that. I was wondering if it was fake.

I've noticed this too.
I think it is a small amount of residual power left over from previously.
A nudge gets the watch going, but only for a very short period.

Even if you never wear it or haven’t worn it for ages

The mainspring is a tightly wound strip of metal. When is unwinds and is just sitting, it will frequently run down where the friction of the metal against itself will keep it from unwinding completely.

Picking it up, or moving it, will allow that friction-lock to slip and push what power is left as it now has room to move, into the gear train, and it will begin working.

It isn't going to be for very long, and the accuracy at that point isn't going to be optimal. Do your watch a favor and wind it.

Most of my zero PR watches will start with a ‘swirl’.

But not for long.

I usually only give them half a dozen turns and wear them.

I confirm for my 1665, after a complete stop for several weeks.
A tiny move is sufficient, it starts running without any effort and no winding.

I was astonished, some time ago, and put the watch onto my timegrapher, which was ready by chance.
I measured, then put the Sea-Dweller onto my wrist and measured every 15 min again.

Amplitude results:
0 min: 137 degrees
15 min: 210 degrees
30 min: 225 degrees
45 min: 246 degrees
60 min: 264 degrees
Then full winding: 292 degrees

Conclusion: the amplitude of my 1665 increases quickly and watch accuracy (rates) becomes very good, just wearing it, without any winding.

Thank you all I thought I was mad I could not believe just a flick would start it. I checked this morning you were all right it stopped. I thought an automatic watch would need much more than that.

I know it's a totally different movement but this one will only wind with a little shake and bake
