The problem with the GMT II on Jubilee bracelet

Hey guys

I see a lot of debate over which bracelet looks better on Pepsi or Batman GMTs or even which is the more authentic somehow.

To me though there is something else - be interested in other's thoughts.

When I see the clasp on the current Jubilee, what I see is an Oyster clasp, not a Jubilee clasp, and this just looks wrong to me.

Here we have the Oyster bracelet and clasp, then the Jubilee assembly on a GMT-Master II, finally a complete Jubilee assembly:



Yes, I think no.3 is referred to as a 'super Jubilee' but can you see what I mean?

Also, I feel Rolex compromised the Jubilee by using the worst aspect of the Oyster bracelet, which is the 'scratch magnet' clasp with its PCLs...

I find it hard to get past this, am I the only one?

Am I wrong?

I was of this opinion when it first came out until I owned one.

Sadly, there is no adjustability without the easy link clasp. Now I’m used to it, but have to agree the hidden clasp looks better

LOL, I like Reebok too (and Nike) but they go with G-Shock not Rolex

I like the clasp on my GMT. The hidden clasp, IMHO, is more for the jewelry watches (Datejusts and Day-Dates). I like the hidden clasps on mine.

Yep - totally see that as well. I wonder if they can make an adjustable hidden bracelet, that would be cool.

I have both the Batman and the Pepsi on Jubilee and was not a huge fan until I owned them. I enjoy the new clasp and the on the fly adjustment. No issues.

Where can you buy and how much does the super jubilee cost and will it fit my GMT LN Master 2?

Well you can always swap the bracelet; the superjubilee 63200 / 63600 bands fit the GMT case by using the correct springbars

I strongly prefer the current oyster style clasp and configuration on the jubilee bracelet GMT. It’s just sportier looking/feeling. The bracelet is light enough to begin with and the clasp seems to balance the watch better. At least to my eye and wrist.

Overall, it just feels like a better match than the hidden jubilee clasp, which seems better suited for “daintier” dress watches.

Only in the recent past would one expect a hidden clasp on a Jubilee bracelet. It was in 2005 when the hidden clasp was introduced on the men's Datejust Jubilee bracelet.

Before that GMTs on Jubilee’s had the regular clasp like the Datejust.

I do agree that a GMT owner who isn’t actively involved in professional pursuits, and doesn’t want the safety and comfort features of Oyster-type clasps, might enjoy the option of a hidden clasp.

But I think a tool watch with a dressy clasp is incongruous in the main.

There's no 'wrong,' just personal preference.

I would one thousand times take an oyster clasp with adjustability than a hidden clasp with no adjustability. But then again, I'm a function over form type of guy.

I prefer the jubilee clasp over super jubilee for the gmt.

I think super jubilee on the gmt makes it look too dressy for my liking.

I’d prefer an oyster clasp with Glidelock like offered on the 42mm YM in white gold. That is one comfortable watch!

actually, correct me i'm wrong, but the super-jubilee is no longer offered on ANY watch from rolex, right? i know that they had them on the 116234 datejust 36's, the ones with the roulette date wheels, but of course, those aren't in production any longer. is it possible to have a super-jubilee properly fitted for a modern datejust 36 or, dare i say it, a datejust41??

and, i've never really considered it until just thinking about it now, but, would a datejust36 comfortably fit someone with 7.5-8" wrists?

IMO professional models should always be oyster bracelet / oysterflex. Jubilee with the classic watches.

The original Jubilee bracelets didn't have the hidden clasps, so Rolex is just returning to the old forms, upgraded for modern watches.

My 116200 has the hidden Jubilee clasp and I like it on my DJ, but I wouldn't want one on my BLNR.

This. I like the flip lock. Would be perfect with a mini glidelock. The easylink is a great compromise imo.
