The most boring Daytona (photo compare)

Hi guys!

Few weeks ago I become trice-Daytona owner.
My first Daytona was WG blue dial 116509. Awesome watch, one of the most usable watch in my collection. Perfect with casual and suit dress. It was first purchase in Moscow Rolex AD, it was august 2019.

Second Daytona - WG OF 116519 with panda dial. I bought two of these watches, for me and for my wife, she has MOP diamond dial. Almost every weekend it’s on my wrist, and I also take them on vacation. For my wife it her favourite daily watch. Both of these Daytonas are from the same AD as 116509. They are with me since March of 2020.

I was completely indifferent for SS Daytona, but...I have special thread how I get it, it’s here: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=804700
They spent only one day on my wrist, day after purchase. On all other days, I preferred other watches.

Some rolexforums members asked me about for photos of my Daytonas, so let’s discuss it. For me SS one is very boring, especially compare to Panda and very deep blue dial PM version.
What do you think?

P.S. thanks to my wife for display to make joint photo, my winder looks dusty

Well, you know it doesn't quite work like that.
All Daytonas come free if you have picture with you and Putin

What an awesome response! I'm still smiling. And what a great collection. I have the 116509 WG blue dial, as well, and can't really imagine moving to the SS, though it's a beautiful watch.

Well, not all SS watches are the same. For me Hulk is irreplaceable partner for business trips to Arctic oil fields. It never occurred to me to get PM watch for a such trip.

damn, you have a baller collection. congrats on all these beauties from your pics. I would kill for that Patek you are wearing.

just curious - do you prefer white gold OF to full white gold non-ceramic daytona? if so why?

I own a SS Daytona in black. you should keep all 3 - as SS Daytona is more of a collector's item, more than anything. not as good looking as WG Daytona but it is a rare, prized item.

Thanks! This is only the one Patek I have. Unique piece.

That’s a good question. First I want to say, that’s OF is super kind of strap. Definitely another fillings of wearing. I love it. And almost every casual weekend OF Daytona with me. I can’t choose between them, because loss of every piece is a tragedy.

you win the internet with that response.

Agree, after the PM Daytona’s the SS appears too plain/boring.

I’m just reported actual status in Putin’s Russia :)

Now I have some fresh ideas about what to do with SS Daytona. I will start new thread

well, it's a little unfair to compare the "plain jane" SS daytona to the blue dial and WG oysterflex Daytona like that
If you had gone in the opposite order, it might be a different story
and when you have 3 of them, it's not going to be as special to you

i love my white daytona and have been daily wearing it for almost 4 years
it's the only watch that I was interested in from Rolex and it's a wedding gift to me from my wife so it is very special to me

Thanks for the pictures. I'm loving the OF Daytona. I'm considering chocolate dial RG or meteorite... WG?

I don’t have any RG or YG watch in my collection. I’m hired manager, for me YG or RG watch is the privilege of business owners or retired managers

They’re all stunning, you have a world class Daytona collection. I think compared to the PM’s, all SS models will fall a little short. But the SS Daytona’s are the most elegant stainless watch in existence, and I think the white dial fits a gap in your collection. I think you should get the black dial to round it out, and maybe rose or yellow gold too. But your collection is fire 100%.

Thanks a lot. I have few black dial watches, such as RO and SkyD. Black dial Daytona - I don't know exactly where to wear it

It’s a black dial Daytona mate you can wear it anytime and with anything!!

You really have a sick collection w the AP and SkyD. Well done.

I have the black, waiting on the white. I also have TT black, which i know is taste specific but a very cool watch.

The most boring Daytona (photo compare)

Hi Mike, hope all is well there in Moscow. I agree with you; I feel the SS version are boring in comparison. I owned a black dial 116500 but it didn't stick as increasing value wasn't enough for me to want to keep it. Traded it toward my 116506 and later got a Slate dial two tone.

Hi, Lee!

I'm closely following your topic about Platona purchase - this is the ultimate piece! Grail of grails

Thanks, Mike. it's a great watch that I keep flirting with parting. But back to the thread at hand. Here was my SS Daytona. Not as interesting as either of the ones I showed earlier.

Completely agree. I feel the same way about the new Tudor chronographs as well (I much prefer the colorful heritage). At least the PM and TT Daytonas have a lot more interesting color combinations. The black and white monotone is boring to me.

Most people choose the SS because it’s the most affordable (especially when bought directly from AD). I am almost certain that the blue dial would become an instant favorite if it was available in SS. But that’s just me. I’m sure there are plenty who disagree and will reply to my post :)

Good example is blue dial SS SkyD. Very rare piece, much harder to get compare to other SS SkyD’s

Apparently all 3 SS Sky-D dials are produced in equal quantities.

I asked about this and heard the same. My SA snapped back "they aren't more rare, they're just the one everyone wants".

Very hard to appreciate a SS daytona after experiencing a PM one. I have gone in this direction and there is no comparison
