Icon14 dmb359 - State of the Collection (SOTC 2021)

Been a couple years since I did a SOTC, and made a few changes over the years, especially during Covid.

For me, I like sticking around 15 watches, and will move out a piece, if any pieces come in. No current additions planned though, not sure what I want to do next, but have been attracted to some of the independent brands out there. Also, the blue dial on the Laine has been swapped back to a gray dial that I also have for it, as the blue was a little much for me.

As for my tastes, I'm not a big fan of overly dressy watches, typically don't like bright colors, or yellow gold watches, although I'll possibly add a two tone or rose gold at some point.

Feel free to leave feedback (good or bad) and ideas for future additions.

Wow,

What a fantastic collection that is well thought out.

Each piece complements its entire row.

Whatever changes you make, I'm sure will be amazing.

Heavy hitter collection! Great watches with various brands and styles.

Particularly like the middle three in the middle row....as well as the top row AP and Glashutte on the far right.

Great variety!

What's your favourite piece out of them all? Or which do you wear the most?

That would be tough, and those are 2 different things.

If I had to pick 2 favorites/keepers, it would probably be the aquanaut and the daytona.

The most wear is probably the Sub or YM though.

That Nomos was the hardest to find piece though, as its a 1 of 25 LE, and I love it. The Speedy is a birth year for me too. I don't wear it much, but I also love it.

I like your collection, and would wear pretty much any of them as a daily - congrats. Especially like the disciplined approach to acquiring a variety, but also knowing yourself well enough to get what you really like. Wear in good health

Thanks. I definitely have broad tastes, and like variety, but still know what I like and don't like.

I went through probably 70 watches over the last 5 years or so figuring out what I like.

I’d merge the 1815 and the panolunar in a Lange 1 moonphase and add a GO 70s chrono. Perhaps upgrade the Seamaster to a PO for a splash of color. Otherwise, great classics collection and good to see a few people don’t get their taste solely off instagram.
Oh, personally I have a soft spot for the breguet xx... line. But since you’re pretty set with chronographs already, I don’t think it would fit.

I do like the Lange 1, but would be tough for me to part with the 1815, which I love. Not a fan of the GO 70s. I like Breguet, I've looked at Breguet's for sale many times, just never saw one that I just had to have. I would like to get one someday though.

Yes, it's nice to see a collection that isn't the ten most popular Rolexes with the three most popular Pateks and a blue Royal Oak.

haha. I do like a lot of variety, and not interested in only buying one brand. Too many cool watches out there.

Although I wouldn't mind having the 10 most popular Rolexes and the 3 most popular Pateks, lol

Thank you. I absolutely love watches, and have very broad tastes. In it to explore different brands and buy watches I like, not just watches instagram tells me to buy, lol.

Not a GMT in sight. Given your collection, I assume that's by choice?

Great choices!

actually no, just don't happen to have any now. I have the Nomos dual time, and I've had the BLNR, and a couple other GMT's before. I typically gravitate towards more base dials, and usually don't have multiple watches from the same brands. So no real reason, other than there aren't any GMT's I'm dying to have over other watches from some brand I like.

Lots of GMT's I like though, and I certainly don't avoid GMT's. I just don't buy watches to fill a "style void" or anything. I don't feel the need to have a GMT, a dress watch, a daily watch, etc just to have all those categories covered. I just buy what I like.
