Do you feel the OP39 is unnecessary in this collection?

Collection consists of:

126610LN Black sub
116610 LV Hulk
126613LB Bluesy
116500 White dial Daytona
116519 Steel dial OF Daytona
116622 Yacht-Master blue dial

And trying to work on a Pepsi...

Now I also have an OP39, in grape. Honestly the main reason I have it is cause of the unique dial color. I do not see many purpleish dial colors and this stands out for that reason.

However I get comments like "That watch is not necessary to keep considering the rest of your collection."

Do you guys feel the same? Or does it have a place?

OP covers the OP/DJ/DD requirement.

+1 Of course, if you don’t wear it, probably unnecessary.

In response to the thread, it is your collection and this consists of watches that are important to you.

I have a 14010 Air King and many people have a similar question/comments about my AK. It was my first Rolex and I enjoy having it in my collection, even if it doesn’t get worn by me much. I have a little more sentimentality with that watch over the 2nd and 3rd Rolex purchase (which I have since moved on from so I could get to my 4th and 5th over the years) almost 20 years ago.

I can see what they mean though because if I had your collection, the OP would not get much wrist time.

Fair point. Although the overall look/style of DD may be reminiscent of the OP/DJ, they are very different pieces to a Rolex collector.

Brother. Don’t let other people make decisions for you. It’s your collection not theirs.

I knew this comment was coming... I know. I just like hearing opinions. It's my final say

Everyone collects in their own way - you seem to have a liking for different dial colours in your collection whereas mine are all black/champagne/white. I think your OP has a great place in your collection and very unique.

You’re proving my point. Making decisions based on opinions essentially means your final say would be based on opinions of others that are not of your circumstance, thought process, or aesthetic taste.

If you’re looking to ever be content with your collection, you need to approach collection decisions introspectively.

If you’re planning on being in limbo indefinitely, by all means stay the course

I mean this is blatantly not true. I just like hearing opinions of others and come to a collective reasoning of my own. Plenty of times reading other peoples views on a watch makes me appreciate or not appreciate a watch and it has nothing to do with liking it or not cause they did or did not.

Otherwise what is the point of this message board to begin with? You can be open to other peoples interpretations and be okay to have your mind changed or NOT change your mind just because they feel differently than you. They are both very mutually exclusive.

Case in point, I made a poll a month or so back on what to get rid of in my collection and the overwhelming choice was the Bluesy. That was a very interesting read, and I gathered a lot of interesting perspectives. But I would never move the Bluesy on cause I love it.

I have a red grape coming in a couple of weeks. Pretty excited! Unique piece for sure.

Definitely not a necessity for your collection but if you like it, it should keep a spot.

I think you're going about it the wrong way. It's not about necessary or unnecessary. No Rolex watch is "necessary"

Your comment: Honestly the main reason I have it is cause of the unique dial color.

Already says you don't love it. Easy decision to me, but obviously your money.

You could always sell it and then buy back later if you missed it - doesn’t seem to volatile

I think it's a great piece and not something every collector would have in their arsenal. If you enjoy it, keep it! I'm kicking myself for missing the OP39 in white when it was available.

Yes, just being honest. I’d never ever wear that if I had all those other watches.

Absolutely a keeper. I love that watch and dial color. Blue jeans, white T and a grape OP? Yess

OP39 is a great watch and if you fancy a change get the dial changed to the white or black if you get an RSC Service.

The dial color is the main reason I'd keep it haha.

You answered your question then, keep it as none of your other watches have a nice vibrant coloured dial like that.

Your collection has plenty of overlap. I think the OP stands alone, all the more reason to keep it.

Personally, I would keep. It has a unique aesthetic and it appears to be the lone non-sports watch in your collection

If you're trying to balance out the collection, I'd get rid of a Daytona or Sub. I think a 3 hand'er should be in every collection . . . plus I like the grape.

With a collection like that, I would be worried about not wanting to grab the OP to wear at all since all the other pieces are incredible. However, if collecting for the sake of collecting, sure why not.
