Tropical or just badly damaged dial? - Tudor 7928
Hi Vintage experts and enthusiast,
Just wondering what draws the line between a nice tropical look and damaged/bad condition. I understand sometimes it is down to tastes, but there must be some sort of definitions? even fade and even brown colors = tropical? dirty/moldy spots, bubbly/hazzy texture, rust = damaged? What are your thoughts on this Tudor example? https://ibb.co/mND2xfS https://ibb.co/7Y7xyLc https://ibb.co/mqsqnRN Thanks! |

I’d say that spots/blemishes all over the dial from (likely) moisture damage isn’t patina. It’s damage.

My opinion, and reality, would be damaged. Of course if it was for sale…

btw, would someone care to teach me how to post photos in a thread?
I tried using the insert image function, I uploaded the photo onto image hosting site, and copied the URL into it. Nothing came out. |

Instead of "Post Quick Reply" click the "Go Advanced" button and use the paperclip icon to attach images. A pop up window will provide image size guidelines, and that is where most new forum members fail. The image sizing. Most (some?) here use the Tapatalk (which I think I misspelled) app which will help you size the images appropriately to post. I use Photoshop to size my images but only because I use Photoshop in my actual job… Good luck. |

Pasting the "bbcode" link from the imaging hosting site into the thread should work.

It is technically damage just like spider dials but retailers will market it like crazy and make the damage unique and special and will even charge a premium for it.

Damaged or not, it’s attractive. It is also all there and legible. There are many folks with 7928 cases and a 390 movement that would kill for the dial. It just depends on the asking price.

worth noting its also a PCG - check the serial starting numbers to make sure it ties to the year of production.

It is tropical with the brown/reddening of the dial. The marks on the dial are very common on these and not always moisture. The lume is original with a hint of fungus
I like it - not a 10 but a solid 8 That config SHOULD be OK if about 406-409K serial. If it is in the 3XX range it is not original

Tropical or damage, I'm definitely into this watch. Love a watch that has lived a life. Damage during a service though, that really stings.

Most patina is damage or wear, just attractive damage or wear.
