Education required on panerai

I've been reading up on "Panerai" as I like a couple of there pieces,but then i've heard that the movements are mainly ETA.Now we all know that thats not a bad movement,but if i'm spending £££ then I don't just want an expensive case.Please don't get we wrong I know there's a lot of history there and part of the high ticket price is a result of this,but Sly Stallone seems to be responsible for some of its popularity in todays market, hardly makes me want to be associated purely for the "Rocky" factor.One of the main reasons I personally like the look is due to the size.I'm a big guy and favour big watches,I class my TT Daytona as a small watch.

Questions I would like to put are

whats the largest model

I like the covered crown whats the history on that

As Paneria fans what will I get for $9000

PAM 312 for only 7,400.-. In house movement 3 days power reserve.
And the rest you can use 'em for buy a lot of straps.

The crown protector is on the luminor and 1950s cases, the radiomirs are the ones without it. For $9000 you should easily pick up a secondhand 233, which has the in-house movement, 44mm size, domed crystal and the best looks of any Panerai for me.

I notice you're in London, did you mean £ instead of $, if it's £9000 you'd pick up a 233 and a nice historic, or if you want one watch you'd have an easy time getting a 270 ( in-house 10 day auto) or 275 (like the 233 but with a chronograph feature) for that kind of money.

I can understand wanting an in house or nicer movement but you will be missing out on some great watches. 111 104 etc. My favorite watch is my 249 and it has a lesser ETA movement. I just do not care as long as it is a solid proven movement. That watch is better than the sum of its parts. On the other hand I recently purchased a FER 024 based on the Minerva movement and to a lesser extent the styling. So do not be afraid of the ETA movements and if it is an issue some of the recent 3 day new movements may fit the bill. I personally would save for 233/289/268 with 8 day manual. It is a fantastic movement. The 270 is also interesting with a 10 day auto however I rarely wear mine due to 233,289 being perfect.

chub- interesting thread here. saw you have a deepsea and now you're after a panerai? :) i'm in the oppposite boat. i picked up a 212 and now i want a deepsea. :)
