Red Sea Dweller as it should be...true to history & roots!
Just got this back from LAWW. WOW!
Perfection for my tastes. Could not be happier with it. Now...if Rolex would just fix the Deep Sea by removing the text around that beautiful steel ring lock! |

Owning both the 43 and D Blue all I can say is enjoy that SD , it’s a great piece . If you ever get the chance to acquire the D Blue you will definitely admire every bit of that dial .

May I ask what crystal was used? From memory simply removing the cyclops leaves the AR coating under the crystal where the cyclops was, although that could easily be removed with the crystal out.

An aftermarket crystal/gasket made to the same specs/dimensions/thickness. PM me if you want the source/link. LAWW removed the cyclops from the replacement crystal. I still have the original crystal/gasket so that it can be returned to original specs if needed or if I want a factory service. This seemed to be the best approach as I have read that it is not possible to get the cyclops off of the OEM crystal. Someone noted that it is fastened differently than in the past and that the crystal may have a receiving pit (lack of a better term) to strengthen the bond.

Gone is that beautiful water pearl characterizing a Rolex from 50 feet away.

I like it much better without the cyclops. Feels truer to the original DNA. We have advanced since then of course but aesthetically it looks perfect.

Every time I see a modded Rolex, it looks okay, but can only say to myself that the oem configuration always looks best. As for the ring lock text....I like that too....it's the Deepsea's super power, why should Rolex hide it. To each their own, just happy no one here is on Rolex's design team, or we'd have all brushed bracelets and sterile dials.
Only thing I find a little puzzling is that Rolex gives so much choices yet still so many complaints. Jubilees, pcls, cyclops, different clasps, sizes, oyster bracelets, colors galore....options...which makes it easier and more enjoyable to own several Rolex. If not for such variety, I would agree with most wives as then they would "literally" all look the same. |

Nailed it! That’s how it should have been released in the first place. Nice one Rusty.

That looks great! I think I would love mine even more with no cyclops.
I am surprised at how little this cost. Is the new crystal the same thickness? Has depth rating been compromised? |

Without the cyclops, the placement of date window looks kind of wrong to me. There's a large visible empty space between the date and the edge of the dial now. This space is normally hidden by the cyclops. Because of this, I personally prefer it with the cyclops, unless the date window could be placed further to the right. You’d essentially need a larger movement for that to happen. Buy hey, if that's what you like OP, more power to you.
