Batman Oyster GMT is running slightly fast at +4secs/day. Should I send the watch for service before the 5 year warranty expires?

If RSC says it'll be covered and if you are close to the end of the 5 years, then sure, why not get a "free tune up"? But +4s/d is still very good overall and not something I'd be willing to pay full service prices to remedy.

No, I think that would be completely unnecessary! +4secs/day is damn good for any mechanical watch imho, still within the older COSC -4/+6 secs/day! I wouldn't obsess about seconds accuracy unless it was WAY off, and running slightly fast is better than running slow! Just to put +4 secs into perspective: there are 86,400 secs in a day, as I'm sure you know!

Try crown up overnight ..may get down to +2s/day .

Exactly, I usually find a can self regulate all my watches but leaving in the right position overnight whether it needs slightly speeding up or slowing down

Nobody is going to do a service on a watch that is 4 seconds fast unless you pay for it.

That's a pretty expensive way to time your watch. A simple regulation might be done for free.

Make sure your time reference is accurate to within less than a second.

If you're using an "atomic" clock in your home, that can be off by four seconds or more at any given time.

If you use your computer, it could be off by seconds, too.

Consistantly +4 s/d is very good.
Either nothing or regulation.
No service required IMO.

Once a week, pull the crown out to "hack" for 28 seconds, then push it back in and screw it down.

It’s an average position. Tested in various layouts and then averaged. So on the wrist it may be “out of spec” but they never have said as far as I’m aware that this sort of thing warrants a regulation. I’d try laying the watch crown down at night and seeing if that reduces it slightly. Come on, 4 secs a day out of 86400 is pretty good

Slyboogie215, I have a 116710LN and I sent it in for service. Prior to service I was losing 30-35 seconds/day. It was kind of an annoyance but then again this is an automatic movement. Since the service my GMT II has kept time better than it ever has. I set my watch last week to my computer clock (which is updated to current GMT - 6) and it is still within a couple seconds to where I had set it. To say I am pleased is an understatement. If you're losing that kind of time it might be a good thing to have the movement serviced.

Thank you everyone for your input! My watches are kept in a Wolf watch winder set to 650 tpd bidirectional. I will leave the watch out with the crown facing up and see how that goes.

Based on the consensus and everybody’s input, I won’t send the watch for service. Thanks again fellow watch addicts!

If it makes you happy yeah. And if you won't miss it for a couple of months. Out of spec is out of spec. We pay good money for these watches; why wouldn't we want them to run the way they are advertised to.

That is within COSC spec, so definitely would not service unless something else was wrong or you were constantly using the watch in saltwater (in which case 5 years would be a reasonable interval to have the gaskets replaced and water resistance checked.)

Had some out of spec 2020 submariner, but honestly accuracy is hardly good with mechanical watch anyhow. I’d rather avoid other issues by sending it and getting in back from service.

The risks don’t outweighs the (non existing) issue IMO.
