Third time owning this watch. This time at a premium!

So I made a bit of an adjustment to my collection.

I started with the 126710 BLRO / Z Blue

And a 36mm explorer.

I’ve owned the 39mm explorer twice and have sold it both times either due to having cash for my bikes (I’m an avid cyclist) or just because I had my eye on something else.

Fast forward a few years and I’m searching again for a nice daily tool watch for the collection.

I knew for this watch I didn’t want to pay the premium of the explorer 39 due to its discontinuation.

I got a chance to get the 36 retail at the price point I wanted for a daily (around 7500CAD)

I couldn’t help but second guess the size every single time it was on my wrist, albeit it is definitely the most well proportioned version of this model. I just kept thinking subconsciously it was too small every time I looked at it.

I ended up getting rid of it to fund an OP41 at retail at the same price point. I loved this watch and it’s size, i thought it was perfect. But in the back of my mind there was something about the explorer I that made it the best daily in my personal opinion. I kept humming and hawing to myself “this is the one I REALLY want, but do I really pay a premium for a watch that isn’t worth its market value!?”

The thought of a 39mm explorer kept lurking in the back of my mind, I couldn’t bare the thought of missing the opportunity to buy it if it eventually became too out of reach.

So I sold the OP and bit the bullet on the explorer, a mint 2017 example, unnamed card (still finding a few stickers) at 12kCAD.

I absolutely love everything about this watch. It’s always been one of my personal favourites since i started this ridiculous hobby lol.

This is the first watch ive ever paid a premium for!

Here she is!

So now I promised myself I’d stop at the 3

Pepsi / z blue and exp 39

We will see how that goes lol

Don’t feel too bad. I’ve owned it at least 3 time. Maybe 4

Get it. Love it.

Find it too small. Never wear it.

Get rid of it.

Miss it. Get another

It’s a great watch. Perfect size. Lightweight. Under the radar. Not super common. It’s everything a daily watch should be.

Good for you.

Nice time piece. Don't feel bad. You are not alone. I am contemplating repurchasing a watch I have sold twice before. It's a sickness. Not a choice!

This one is correct size for your wrist, you definitely made the right move when swapping over from the 36 mm version (more like 35 mm).

Congrats for a third time! I'm only on my second 39mm explorer!
Sold my first for something shinny. I lucked out and managed to get my 2nd in February 2020 just before the lockdowns in Canada from an AD.

I love the explorer for the:

-slim lugs
-matte black iconic 3,6,9 dial
-39mm size
-simplicity
-super comfy, cant feel it on the wrist
-flies under the radar

Mine's a keeper and im sure yours is now too! Enjoy it!

Congrats!! The Explorer starting to haunt me. Perfect 3 watch collection should always include some version of an Explorer (in my opinion the 214 or 124)!!

Congratulations. Great looking watch. I buy and sell what I want, when I want and have had several watches 4 or 5 times, the Hulk. I use the funds from the sale to fund other watches that I want and sometimes circle back at some point. Sometimes it takes selling a watch a few times to get it back and really connect. The 1861 and the 3861 Speedmaster is an example for me. The Speedmaster had been in and out of my collection for years and the new 3861 has come and has stuck. The 1861 came and went and then I bought it back and it has stuck. No plans to move them. As long as you have the watches you want, it is all fun.

Third time owning this watch. This time at a premium!

It’s been a couple of weeks….. past experience has me wondering if the collection is still the same.

I’m personally chasing the new 36mm explorer but stories like yours have me convinced I’m going to hand onto both for a long honeymoon period just to be sure I’m not chasing the other size.

Congrats, the explorer looks fantastic on your arm.
