Cost to Replace Solid Gold Submariner Bracelet

Hey everyone. My buddy recently bought a yellow gold sub from 1991. It’s been polished a few times and he wants to have the bezel and bracelet replaced. You can barely even see the crown on the clasp due to the over polishing. Do you know what Rolex would charge to swap the bracelet? Do they ever offer replacing just the clasp? Same question for the actual bezel, what would they charge to swap.

Anyone have experience with this scenario on a solid gold watch from that era?

Best thing to do is to call a RSC for pricing. If I recall correctly they charge $10-15k for a full PM bracelet and ~$3500 for the PM clasp. I have no clue on bezel, but assume it’s about the same as the clasp

What’s the policy on PM bracelet replacement? Will RSC insist on keeping original? If so, definitely send without the bracelet so that it can at least be sold as scrap gold.

I could see a new clasp or bracelet costing that much… but I heard Rolex actually has pretty reasonable costs when swapping… meaning they get to keep the polished bracelet

So they do essentially offer “trade-in value” on the gold?

RSC quotes all prices assuming trade in of old parts. Prices go up without trade in

Not SS bracelets in the UK. Not sure about other metals or countries.

Yeah, it is very expensive to replace gold parts. In the end, buy the watch you want, not the one that could be what you want if material things are fixed.

There’s a company called rolliworks, some of their work is posted here and it’s absolutely exceptional and fairly priced.

Seeing as you live in the US i would send it to them and see what they can do with it.

(Ive never used them personally)

I don’t think anybody out there can bring back the worn off crown on the clasp……

that is going to be expensive!!!!

If you do go down that path I suggest you take off the current bracelet and put on a leather strap and say you bought it like that and just buy the bracelet without swap.

Not sure if Rolex is going to give you even scrap price of 18kt gold.

I can tell you from personal experience, replacing a gold bracelet from a day date cost almost 10,000 euro. And that is at trade in. They kept the original.

I called RSC. $15,200 for new bracelet after trade in of the old. They said they wouldn’t sell the bracelet without a trade in. New clasp only with trade in is $4,000. New bezel with trade in is $1,300.

Hmmm. That is insane. The value of the gold in the bracelet is about $3500. Yeah, yeah, I know the gold value has not much to do with Rolex pricing but you think they would give you a break on trade-in.

I would take some detailed pics and check with Rolliworks. Not sure they could do much with the coronet if it has been polished flat but maybe they could. After all it is just stamped into the clasp from the reverse side.
