Is my BLNR safe to wear at a jazz festival?

I'm not big on posting photos of myself but my buddy took this shot yesterday and I thought it was fun.
And yes - it survived.

Seattle's Jose Rizal Jazz Festival - a fun event to play.

Honorary Pinoy yesterday. Was a serious good time.

Played with two bands - the Fil-Am Jazz band and Tessarosa (my regular band) We have a park in Seattle named for Dr. Rizal and the event supports the park.

Dude, that’s sick. Love jazz and envious you got the best seat in the house. ;) match the shirt to the watch or the watch to the shirt? (Hypothetical question, we know the watch dictates that lol).

Blue is a perfect color for jazz. Love the shades, shirt, and watch combo!

lolol... BLNR was in a happy place. The missus isn't a fan of the shirt either. Lightweight linen - so comfy. Obnoxious though to be sure.

You nailed it - the seminal album for those seeking to experience jazz is still Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue".

Thanks!

Very cool shirt and mirror shades! A perfect match! I like the tenor sax too...I used to play one (sometimes an alto sax) in my youth as an amateur! Loved playing old Glenn Miller stuff and (don't laugh!) Sousa marches! Oh, and nice watch too! Take care!

Nope. Keep it in the safety deposit box wrapped in an organic unicorn hair cloth, sprinkled with fairy dust, and guarded by Sauron. How can you possibly think about actually wearing a Rolex out in the scary world. Tsk tsk. ; )

And yes, “Kind of Blue” is essential jazz. I’ve been on a big Pat Metheny kick lately. All the people debating who’s the better guitarist, Hendrix or Page, have clearly never heard Pat play.

Love the shirt just as much as the watch. Nothing wrong with a bold print, you wear it well!

Thanks! hehe... never played Sousa on the saxophone. That was played on the agony stick aka clarinet back in grade school. :D

When I'm playing an event for really old folks (considering that I'm already old) "In The Mood" is often on the set list.

Metheny, Montgomery, Pass, DiMiola, Green, Benson - IMO all next level players for sure.

Too kind, my friend. That was one of those "had to have it" buys and it is a fun shirt for performing.

Nope - they are a matched pair of a completely underappreciated horn. The maker is Antigua Winds. They are best known for solid and reliable student instruments from Asia. I've always been a horn snob and pretty much play only Selmer and Yamaha pro horns but Antigua knocked it out of the park with this model. They call them the "Pro One"

They gave a noted saxophone designer named Peter Ponzol carte blanche in terms of design and innovation and he delivered big time from a non-stick G# mechanism to the only hybrid tone hole layout in all of saxophonedom. The lowest tone holes have rings soldered on them that makes them perform like rolled tone holes with superior sealing and a darker, more robust timbre.

The rest of the tone holes are drawn from the body and are straight which IMO gives the horn better response and way better ability in the extreme high registers. I love them. The vintage lacquer finish and hand engraving are really nicely executed too.

They haven't sold well though which is too bad. I picked them up as backups for my regular horns and they've become my performing axes in the process.

I'm gonna have to tell my wife she's wrong about the shirt. Thanks, brother! It was a blast. I ended up playing with a 2nd band that day and we had a great time as well.

Part of the reason I retired from the day job was to do more of this.

One more with one of my lifelong pals. Playing a tune that Freddie Hubbard wrote called "Povo". So funky. Soul/jazz at it's finest IMO.
