problem with setting the time on watch

Hi,

I have recently had issues with my datejust, where the seconds hand on dial won't stop on the watch when setting the time, the second hand keeps on sweeping, the hack feature did work before but now does not.

I'm concerned have i damaged inside parts of the watch?, other than that the watch seems to be working fine,



One other quick question if people have the time to answer:

when not using the watch is it ok to leave the watch dead and wind it up when using it? or wind regularly and keep it to run all the time.

if the hack feature worked before and does not any more, it needs to be check by a trained Rolex service person.

My watches simply stay dead all the time. They get worn two days a month only. Never had a problem.

Only use the winder sometimes to give a new watch a work out of about a week or two.

i dont know if i should continue to wind up the watch and use it as it seems to keep good time. just the hack mechanism is not working, if i continue to use it before i take it to a RSC i'm probly just doing more damage to the inside internal parts?

anyone else comment on this or have experienced simular situations?

My friends presidential is toast from sitting dormant in a lockbox for a year or 2... his brothers presidential that has been worn everyday since the 1960's???

RSC guy said his internals were in amazing shape!

I have always been told that they shouldnt sit dormant for more than a few days or weeks... :

Yes, more common wisdom that is not wise. Of course we have all heard this for as long as we can remember. It is pure 100% BS.

1. If your watch would be damaged by sitting unwound for a few days, don't you think Rolex or any other manufacturer might mention this? They do not because it is not true.

2. What about the thousands of automatic watches that are shipped by all the manufacturers all over the world? Many will be months or even years before the boxes are opened for the first time. No one has been winding these.

3. A watch that has stopped is not wearing mechanically. One that runs constantly wears constantly.

4. This story continues, but really only serves those that sell really expensive watch winders.

The hack lever in your watch is spring brass and they do break it needs to be replaced because it's possible the the remaining unattached part with connect with your balance wheel and stop it or cause it not to keep proper time. The part is not expensive but getting to it is. The watch has to be dissasembled to replace it. The calibre 3135 is relatively easy but the 3035 is on the dial side and everthing on that side has to come off to get to it hope tha helps. Rik the watchmaker
