Rolex Day Date 118238 lugs

Hi everyone, I just purchased a day date 118238 from a reputable dealer. I have never seen a precious metal Rolex before, much less a day date. It was listed in excellent condition.

I’ve handled quite a few stainless steel Rolex models before though, and the lugs are usually quite sharp and defined. Whereas on the day date they are a bit smooth, rounded.

I was wondering if this watch appears to be polished? The bracelet is in very good condition for a 20 ish year old watch, with minimal stretch.

Trolling around images of this model it’s hard comparing lugs to see if polishing has occurred. If you need any other angles, please let me know!

Looks polished to me but nothing egregious, and I have no beef with polishing as some do. Datejust and day dates, some variations, are naturally more rounded at the lug than say a sub or gmt, regardless of type of metal. For example, my 116234 has naturally “rounder” if you will, lugs than my 114060 sub.

bezel and lugs look polished. the bezel looks like it lost quite a bit of its shine and has that melted look. personally if it was listed at excellent condition i would return it. here's mine from 2018 for comparison. if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

I won't say it is "over polished" as that is subjective, but it certainly looks well polished

Does look like it has been polished a few times during its life.. for a second I thought it was the 18238. If you are getting a good deal then go for it. Not a deal breaker.

See mine for ref..

Definitely over-polished, and a poor quality polish at that. Look at the outside edge of the crown, its a melted mess. The lugs chamfers are all rounded off, and the sharp edges on the perimeter of the bezel are all melted looking.

If this was sold as "excellent condition", then try and return it.

I would be OK with it if it was priced accordingly. Say 15%-20% below top market price for this reference.

Unfortunately, I will add that I don't feel that piece qualifies as being in "excellent" condition
