Rolex 124270 and 114270- couldn't be happier
Hey folks,
I have had a 114270 for year's before I sold it, regretted it and brought a new one. I then wanted to try on the new 36mm 124270 and managed to get one from my AD. I was very skeptical and ready to dislike it and move it on, since I used to dislike all ceramic Subs I tried on and the 6 digits in general, are just too massive for my liking. To my surprise, handling the new Explorer felt good. The best way to describe it IMO is that Rolex cares about the Explorer lineup. They have shaped everything there, and the 19mm lug width suits the design perfectly. The watch looks extremely refined and well balanced, as if that should have been the modern form of the Explorer all along. The AR makes the watch extremely legible and pretty to look at. A very underrated feature. They beefed up the watch appearance without compromising on the proportions and comfort. All in all, I think that Rolex did an amazing job with this release. It is one of my favorite releases from Rolex and it makes me love the brand even more. The 114270 was sold a few days ago... I do miss it, it is extremely comfortable, but I won't be keeping two very similar watches... Thanks for listening |

Congrats on your new watch buddy. I agree the proportions are spot on and it feels like a tailor made watch. I also love that it’s very underrated yet unmistakably Rolex.

I wasn’t sure about the 124270 when I picked mine up 6 weeks ago or so. I really didn’t think I’d take to it. I was prepared to sell it, before I finally started wearing it. Now it’s my first choice to wear - it’s just a perfect watch for all the reasons already given, and more. Rolex really made the right decision with this one.

Congrats on the new pickup, and thank you for this review. I’m waiting for the call for the new Explorer myself, and your thoughts on it has increased my enthusiasm.

Agree. My wrists are just under 7” and couldn’t be happier with how the 124270 wears.

Congrats, I also had a used 114270 but let that go for a 116710LN (GMT2). The 114270 was the most comfortable watch I have owned.
I think one day I will have to go for a new 124270. |

I love it at 36. My first Rolex was a 39mm OP and the Explorer felt small when I first tried it. Now the OP feels very large :)

The first time I tried the 36mm on it felt small, but only because I used to wear u proportionally big watches before that... My wrists are actually pretty big, and the 36mm EXP looks exceptionally good on me. I also have a 40mm Sea-Dweller which looks great as well, but the 36mm Explorer wins that battle IMO.

Agree. It is apparent that Rolex made a lot of effort to get this one right.

Congrats on the switch from 39 to 36. I thought the 39 was perfect until I tried on the new 36 and I stand corrected.
Ever swap it off with some good leather straps? Or is it a bracelet only watch? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

IMHO, and I know a lot would disagree... It's a bracelet only watch.
