Maybe it's just a phase I'm going through, but I can't remember the last time I strapped on my 16600, my 16710, or the 43mm Omega Planet Ocean monstrosity; which are all currently sitting in my safe.

Lately, all my wrist time is split between a JLC Reverso Duoface and...

Congrats! The ebb and flow of life. I went the other way from highly complicated Oateks to Subs, Octos, and PAM TRON. Beach life does that I guess.

Common theme shared by the Rolex, JLC and Cartier. They are each enduring designs, have stood the test of time already. With those four you have a lot of bases covered.

The PO I’m not so sure, that could be the one you never come back to.

Quick phone shots for you. This is Reference 272.8.54.

I hunted for this particular reference for a couple of reasons:

1) Notice the the Jaegar-leCoultre mark has printed in its own placard area and NOT directly on the guilloched (sp?) dial. Most others are printed on the dial and looks "wrinkle-y" if the dial has been guilloched, as this reference has.

2) On the back, the "Night" and "Day" indicators are printed in an arc around the 24 hour dial. Most other references have the printing running in a straight line, which, imo, clashes with the roundness of the rest of the features of the dial.

3) I really dig how strongly the front and back have opposing design esthetics. Everything about the front (except the sub-seconds dial) says "rectangular". Everything about the back says "round." Me likey. ;)

PS: I tried wearing it with the shiny alligator strap it came with. But the watch kept crying "I'm was created to be a sports watch...".

So I ordered a bunch of Perlons in different colors and it's now it's as happy as the kid on the bench who's just been put into the game. :)

Hey, P_McGee,

What I've found with both the Reverso and the Tank Americaine, is that the right strap changes everything.

Remember; the Reverso, (now thought of by many as "too dressy"), was originally a sports watch. JLC ships it with a shiny alligator strap. Heh. I put that back in the box and now wear mine most frequently on different colored perlon straps. It looks right at home with its sports clothes on.

Even the Cartier Tank Americaine can work anywhere with a strap change. I got Aaron over at aaronbespoke.com to make me one out of natural Horween and that tank is right at home now with khakis and an Oxford button-down. It's what I'm wearing in the original post.

I too love my Rolex, but recently purchased a Cartier Santos large and love it. My wife also loved it, so I bought her the Santos medium. I think I see a tank in my future. Beautiful watch
