Am I the only one

I know it’s been talked about numerous times but it still doesn’t help the fact that I am very disappointed. The shortages to find a new watch is just ridiculous. I’ve been to 7 different stores in 3 different states and they all have empty cases. When I bought my first 2 Rolex’s it was a very nice and exciting experience. The cases had multiple watches to try on and the staff was very helpful. I’m trying to acquire a new timepiece to add to my collection and celebrate new accomplishments but this is very frustrating not being able to find or buy a watch. I’m not going to pay double the price to the grey market. I know it’s been discussed multiple times but by golly I’m frustrated! Why is it so hard to get a Rolex from a dealer?

Meanwhile, many are homeless and hungry throughout the world. You can’t get a Rolex at MSRP, go grey or go to a different brand. You nor anyone else is entitled to a Rolex at MSRP just because they want one.

Unpopular opinion, but I agree totally.

The supply/demand equation has swiveled in the favor of Rolex. The brand has moved upmarket and demand outstrips supply as a result.

You certainly aren’t the only one.

You can go grey or look at some of the other brands, but you seem very disinclined to doing that.

Demand is higher and supply is lower for all brands right now. I think it's going to get a little better once the world goes back to normal production but it's hard to say when that will happen. Just get a different brand and enjoy while you wait. Tastes change anyways.

Grey isn’t so bad. Compare prices at grey and then compare your time, money, and emotion you’ll pour into an AD for maybe getting a “call”

What watch are you looking at that is double the price as you state?

You have 2 very nice Rolex pieces. Count yourself lucky and try not to be frustrated. Maybe it's time to move on to another brand.

i'd recommend searching this forum for the other 5,000 posts on this same exact topic. sorry, but it's beyond boring at this point. while it's indeed frustrating, it is what it is. so the options are simple. wait in line, pay a premium to a trusted reseller, or choose another brand. good luck.

Supply and demand. The demand is much greater than the supply.

The cases are empty. The safe in the back is not. When demand outstrips supply, dealers simply have long lists and VIP customers.

Many dealers also prefer to sell to known entities then risk a flipper in today's social media, grey market craze. When something decent comes in, even if unspoken for, it's not going in the case. It's going in the back and phone calls are being made.

So?
I am sure many of us are the same. Just went to Paris and it weren't better than London. Everywhere is the same.
Either go grey or wait, or go to another brand

Stockholm Sweden is pretty well sricked at the 3 Ads here. Nope you find NO SS Sports, but quite a few PM Sports.
Datejust 41 is not impossible either.

Downside?
Its expensive for folks from low tax countries as 2 or the 3 dealers will not write taxfree papers on " in demand" watches

Just buy from eBay, grey market or from a local jewelry shop that has some older model Rolexes. There's still a lot of older rolex models from 1990's to 2000's that are still cheaper than the new models and have the similar look or style. Just a few minor changes..unless your really adamant about the intricacies and technical specs..

I bought a 16613 and 16803 submariner model recently and not complaining. Coulda been happy with a 2020 or 2021 but hey man, the way I see it, time flies by and in a few years it won't even matter if you are collector and appreciate the brand

Then you're unlikely to get one in the near future. Yes, it is inconvenient, but frustrating? It's not a heart transplant.

Why so hard? I'd invest a few hours in reading this forum. What you'll mostly get is speculation and anecdote, but it will serve to illustrate the situation you find yourself in and give you a wider view.

If you are not willing to go grey you have options. Start spending money at an AD and establish a "relationship" (whatever that is), keep your money and forget about it, buy something else. Or just sit still and wait. Give it three to five years. It might be better or worse but it's unlikely to be the same as it is today.

Simple because Rolex are no longer watches now to many just £££$$€€€ objects, many bought then flipped to grey hopefully for profit. Plus the plain and simple fact this world wide pandemic over the past almost two years has slowed production output quite a lot.

I do like Rolex and have bought a number from ADS, all new and all at MSRP or less. Even then I think they are over priced. Better watches are available for less.

Their two saving graces were that:

i) Their proven value retention negated some of the high price
ii) I tend to buy with my heart, not my head

But, at grey prices today, I think point i) is wiped out.

If you can't wait for a piece from an AD use this as an opportunity to look at some of the manufacturers who offer better watches for less.. Omega is a good example that tends to spring to mind.

No, you’re not the only one.
We all have to deal with reality though. Unless you are a VIP you won’t get a desirable Rolex at RRP.
Accepting this fact is the key to horological happiness if you love Rolex.
Then you can calmly and rationally take stock of the real options.
