Sell 114270 for 16570 Polar
Hi everyone,
I'm quite unsure about the following trade: should I sell my 114270 Explorer, my Nomos Tangente Sport (Ref. 506) and a tiny bit of cash to get a 16570 Polar Explorer II? I probably wouldn't consider this trade had they not launched the 124270 (meaning I could still get a 36mm Explorer down the line again). Also in my collection
What are your thoughts? |

Do you not wear the 114270? That watch is a classic. Given your current collection and what you’d have to give up, no, I don’t think I’d do that if I were in your shoes. Out of curiosity, what’s the Polar like? Box and papers? What series?

Thanks. I do wear the 114270 occasionally. The 16570 is a 2004 F serial, papers only.

Personally, I wouldn’t trade your Explorer for the Explorer II at a straight swap, let alone two watches and cash for an incomplete set….

That is not a good deal. Buy the polar outright, it’s a great watch. Sell the 114270 and nemos and you’ll probably come out ahead. Or trade the 114270 plus a little cash and keep the nemos.

I would keep the 114270 in that scenario. I think it is the most handsome Rolex, and they’ve gone up so much lately.

I’ve owned both the 114270 and 16570 polar. I sold the Explorer and don’t miss it and the Explorer II is also looking like exiting. I’m glad I experienced them but other Rolex sports models do more for me in either 5 or 6 digits. Is it a good trade for you? $$ wise perhaps not, though you could get to experience the Exp II which I consider worthwhile.
Problem is, it’s getting too expensive to reacquire lost pieces

Have you tried on the polar? You will hate the bracelet and clasp considering your modern collection

I do agree with the comment on the difference in bracelets - maybe check out the Polar be for you buy. Maybe counter with just the watches / no cash. Good luck! |

Have you tried the polar?
That’s one of those watches that some people love in pictures, but tire of quickly once purchased. |

Sell 114270 for 16570 Polar
I did the opposite. I sold my Polar and bought a 124270. I tend to agree with the above post. The Polar looked better on IG than on my wrist. In fact, I preferred my black dial 16570.

I have both and if I have to choose between the two, I’ll keep the 114270.

Well, it is the best looking version of the Explorer II and it would give you a GMT..

I think the 6-digit Explorer for the 5-digit Explorer II is a reasonable trade. While the Explorer is a tremendous straight-forward all-arounder, the Explorer II packs a lot of function into the most affordable Rolex package. Adding the Nomos and cash is a bit dicier. Best wishes

Thanks everyone for your takes! I decided not to do the trade but sold the Nomos anyway and had my AD put me on the rootbeer list
