Future Rolex Model that will be sought after

So right now, we all know what the hot / sought after models are. What do you guys think will be the future sought after models that are underrated today?

Seems like everything is sought after right now but GMT, Sub and Daytona will always be the most popular in my opinion.

Haven't been into Rolex watches for as long as some people here. Were GMT, Sub, Daytonas always the most sought after?

For the last 30 years, I think they have been. Most non-WIS bought Date-Justs, but the WIS crowd appreciated the history of tool watches. Just my personal opinion.

If the DSSD D-Blue were to be discontinued I wouldn’t be surprised if prices doubled but it’s all just speculation.

Perhaps, if it wasn’t 15 mm thick (for good reasons, admittedly, but how many of us need that?)

It wears a lot better than most Rolex watches. Have you ever worn one?

But the truth of the matter is, unlike a Daytona which was initially unpopular due to fashion reasons that eventually changed into massive success, the SD4K is unpopular because it’s just not that great of a watch, and that will always remain the same.

They are double what they were MSRP. You also do not see these in the wild, or many for sale at all for that matter.

Here MSRP was CHF 10,800, price now is 13-14k, less than a used SD43, how is that double?

According to watchcharts you yourself linked to earlier, the retail price of the watch was 10.400 USD, and the market average is 16.609 USD. The average price is up 6.1% over the last 180 days.

By comparison the 116500 retails for 13.150 and the market average is 33.150 USD. The average price is up 25.7% over the last 180 days.

The 16710 retailed for 5.750 USD and the market average is 14.368 USD. The average price is up 11.7% over the last 180 days.

Now, I don’t say that it will not become sought after, but viewed comparable to other references, I don’t see anything in the current demand that signals that it will go that way.

People have been saying that for years, ever since it was discontinued. Still hasn't really taken off and probably never will.

Since it was discontinued, it is now only available at double what its MSRP was. It's definitely taken off. Its trajectory continues upward year on, year out.

Nothing against the watch, but not sure that is "taking off" by Rolex sports model standards in the four years since it was discontinued, especially nowadays when virtually every single sports Rolex is going through the roof.

It's a nice watch, but a bit of an odd ball size/weight/thickness and design-wise, IMHO. I owned it twice and flipped it twice, trying to love it. Much prefer the classic 16600 SD, but maybe that's just me.

I agree with this and I love the Sea-dweller line but has any SD been truly “sought-after”? And you can add OP, Milgauss to the list of so-called “sleepers”. That’s not to say that they won’t be desirable but no where near sub, gmt or Daytona level imo.

Bought mine in 2015 for 8000€ with 1000€ discount on the msrp. Now it‘s like 14500€. Not too bad. It has gone up constantly, not at once like some OP’s. The longer it is out of production, the more it‘ll go up.

Also commonly phrased as…
  • Which models will go up in value the most?
  • Which models make the best investment?
  • Which models hold their value (if I suddenly need to sell because I can’t afford this watch in the first place)?
#sigh

Watches aren't an investment and I buy them for my own joy. I do love to speculate about how current models will be viewed in the future and there's nothing wrong with that. Lighten up and try enjoying dialogue once in a while.
