18048 or 18338 daydate?

Hi guys, I am a newbie in daydates and dont own any.

I have been looking to give a gift for my wife and have come across two watches from my trusted grey dealer.

18048 with rolex diamonds factory non quickset ( more diamonds as covering the bezel and dial )
or
18338 factory with newer quickset and diamonds on lugs and dial

both similarly priced with the diamond bezel a few hundred more, both polished, bracelet stretch similar and according to the jeweller slighlty polished lol, both got no papers.

I am not sure which one to go for as i believe the one on the bezel factory diamonds would have been more expensive? but its a single quickset.

any thoughts will be appreciated and thanking you guys in advance.

Can't go wrong either way with those 2.
I like the top one a bit better.

Personally I would choose the 18338, especially if price is similar as the newer movement is much more desirable if you choose to ever trade up, and you can simply add a factory or aftermarket diamond bezel if you like the over the top look and have the ultimate DD in my opinion

Both of those watches are quickset. Albeit the first is a single quick.

thank you guys, i personally felt the 18338 is better too, felt like personally the fluted bezel looks nice on a day date and felt the diamonds on the bezel made it look like strange. but that were my thoughts hence thought i ll check with the experts :).

gotta see both in real now and make a decision.

i agree too, and felt the same.. just wondered as there are more diamonds as circling the bezel hence didnt wanna buy the wrong watch :) thanks a lot! so most likely will decide if the condition of one is better than other, if same on both will then take 18338.

Thanks. Bought it like 15 years ago. It's from 1964 14k ordered by the Corona beer company for a retired employee. It stamped on the case back with the Corona enable. The diamond where custom added and they did a great job. 1

Is this to be a total surprise for your wife? If not, let her know the specs of each and let her decide. If it is a surprise, perhaps you can just work it into a conversation about the differences in watches and get her thoughts on the different bezels, and then decide based on her comments.

hi thank you but I am afraid it is a total surprise for her, I do not want to give her even the slightest hint :). We are having our first baby and want to give her a special gift as it is a huge milestone in our life:).

Which one would you go for out of two ?:)

Let your wife pick, I think most women love diamond bezel.

I had several vintage watches and sold most of them because I don't wear them like I used to. I purchased them about 25 years ago and running good. The workmanship on the Bulova diamond is outstanding. If anyone is interested they are for sale.

Diamond lugs over diamond bezel IMO.
