Icon5 First Rolex purchase then ask for waitlist - Acceptable?

After giving up on the Submariner waitlist. I ordered a two-tone Datejust w/the gold fluted dial, which I am happier with anyway, still waiting for it to come in.
This is my first Rolex & new to the AD. I am absolutely in love with these watches & want a professional watch for other occasions.
I was wondering if it's acceptable to ask my AD to put me on the waitlist for the GMT Master II Batman -since its like a 2 year wait, when I go in to pick this puppy up.

Should I just enjoy the moment and not ask for that? I don't want to come of in a negative light by immediately being in the market for another watch.
Thoughts?

I am also in my mid-twenties if that has any judgement on my credibility.

It’s a perfect timing to ask for your second one. I would do it.

If you don't it's a wasted opportunity - do it.

Too soon. It’d give off a flipper vibe, a red flag to the AD. Wait a few months before asking.

All you have to do is stop in semi-regularly and be seen wearing the recently purchased DJ.

It's the perfect time to ask, just be polite and show understand that there may be a considerable wait, but it's a model you really want so you are happy to do so now you have the bug!

Your AD is just a retail store that sells watches, and just like any retail store just ask politely any question you want to ask. Like you would do it you showed interest in any other product you wanted to buy at any retail product store.

I don’t understand the eggshell-stepping?

Just let the man know. He’s only going to say yes, or no.

Any more thought than that, and you’re over thinking it.

Yep. I do that too…. Over thinking things…

It’s simple. Tell them you had your heart set on a professional watch but could not get one. Thank them for ordering you the DJ and ask for the GMT.

I already did and I don't even have my sub yet. My SA flat out asked me if I have a collection I want to build and I said absolutely. I said the sub was my top priority but after that I have some favorites I'd like to add over the next few years.

That shows I'm not just a "one and done" transaction. I'm actually looking to build a mutually beneficial relationship.

I would definitely let him know your next desired watch. He or she may ask anyway. They may want to know what’s on your radar.

Yes, just be nice and don’t get annoyed if you don’t like the answer.
I would ask for a specific model instead of ‘anyone of them’.

Under my opinion depends where in Miami.... after visited all the AD, only sincerely and honest about exactly same thing . Most of them will say "yes, of course..."

Miami is complicated....

It's reasonable to ask although how well they do/do not receive it depends on like 8 trillion factors. Everything from your age to your timing have the potential to work either for or against you depending on the store or the AD. Existing customer backlog and how they prioritize this also plays a role (e.g., if several of their absolute best customers are seeking a BLNR right now, chances are they could be prioritized over others).

I agree with Padi. Your AD sells watches. You have a history there. Of course ask. What better time. It's only a watch. Sick of treating ADs with such deference.

If you don't ask you don't get. Past that there are no rules. As said earlier, a retailer is just a retailer.

Humbly bring a box of chocolate to an AD and ask for a Rolex. I can indeed think of no nobler act of humility than this.

I think at many places it's a list that is constantly being updated and reprioritized based on the prospective returns and evolving market conditions. At least that is what I would do. It doesn't make much business sense to use a sequential list for the highest demand items IMO.

How do these people get through life, asking a forum if it is okay to ask Rolex if they can be put on the waitlist to buy a Rolex…

In all seriousness , showing desire for future business is a valuable contributor to building an AD relationship in many cases.

Sure, go ahead.

I do think the “two year waitlists” are relatively few and far between though, other than for truly rare watches that an AD may get 1-2 of per year. BLNR is obviously quite hard to get, but is not in that category. So it seems more likely to me that you’d either get the watch more quickly or not at all.
