Am I crazy to turn down a TT Sea Dweller?

Hello everyone, I called an AD within several hours of my home inquiring after an SS SD43, as that is a watch I really love. Had a brief conversation, the usual: Hard to get, lengthy waitlist, happy to put my name down, etc. I was polite and appreciative of his time, hung up and thought, “The search continues…”

He called me back four minutes later (I checked my call log), and asked if I’d be interested in a TT 43 as he could get me one within a few days. I was flummoxed. This is the first time I’ve gotten close to acquiring any Rolex.

The problem: I’ve tried on a TT Sub and didn’t love it. I’m not really a gold guy and the TT may be more overstated than I like. But, it feels like I’m in rarefied air with the chance to own a beautiful watch.

Is a bracelet swap an option? I believe I would enjoy the dial and bezel if it only had an SS Oyster.

What would you fine folks do?

Pics for reference. First is me trying on an SS, second is a stock TT photo.

If you don’t love it don’t buy it. I have one and like it but never wear it. I would have been better off getting something that really sang to me.

Your call. If you like it. grab it.
I can only assume the TT gonna weights much more.

A TT sub should prob wears better.

How does u feel trying out the SS SD43? Heavy or just right or light. If its light. Wow. U sure can carry off the TT and I would say buy the TT coz its kinda more unique.

You said it yourself. “I’m not really a gold guy.”
Why would you spend that kind of money on a watch you won’t be happy with?
That said, I hope you get the SD43 soon. Good luck

I’d ask the AD to pay me to wear that watch ;)

Sorry. I’m sure it has its fans, but I’m not one.

Don't swap the bracelet it will look weird. Don't buy it if you don't love it. Your AD will understand.

So I’m in the “yes” camp. If you’re looking at this through an objective lens: you probably haven’t spent enough at the AD to get a SS Rolex, this is a good way to increase spend history and set you up for future purchases. If you decide you don’t like it, you’ll be able to sell on grey for a break even I would think. I think it’s a beautiful watch. TT is taste specific for sure, but I have a TT and it’s my favorite watch at the moment, and yes, I have full PM models.

After thinking even more about it, my answer is still no. You can wait it out and see if your AD comes through for you and gets you the stainless version. You can also get a ss model from a grey dealer for about 16k. Same price as the TT model. If it was me and I really wanted the stainless right this second I’d go with the grey for what you would be paying for a TT that you really don’t want.

If not interested in building a spend history with the AD, this is the route I would go. My comment was directed more towards building a relationship ie dropping some bread.

I finally realized I'm not a TT guy. I had a 36mm TT DJ and never wore it. Ended up selling it. Then I was offered a TT Daytona which I initially agreed to buy, but after a day or so of thinking about it, I decided to pass on it. All of this to say, if you don't love it, don't buy it. TT for me just didn't do it.

It should take 6 months to get one? Or go grey, they have not rocket in price.

Don’t settle just because you have to wait. Would you buy a car in pink just because the black has waiting time?

You are dealing with the right AD just tell you really want it in steel.

You're in love with the SS version so I would wait for it. You won't be waiting much before getting it. That Red Line on the dial alone is worth the wait ;-)

SS sea dweller should not be hard to get with a little effort. Don’t settle! Keep the hunt going until you get what you want.

Even as an owner of a TT SD43, I think the answer for you is pass.
For me, I never liked them in images, but I had the chance to try one on and was really impressed with it, so I got it. Will I lose interest in it eventually… maybe, but for now it gets plenty of wrist time despite my growing collection.

You do not like the watch. Should you buy it? Well, you and I kind of have the same problem related to logic. I get irritated when I read these kind of posts, but I still read them.

My AD offered me the same back a few months ago, turned it down and a few weeks later they called with the SS version. Don’t settle if you’re not fully on board with TT, it’s a beautiful watch but very different from the SS version. I personally clearly prefer the latter.

I wasn’t a TT guy either, but after seeing this in person, how could I say no to this beauty? I have a SS SD43 as well and both get the same amount of wrist time.

I don't like TT dive watches and I wouldn't buy a watch I didn't want either.

If you don't like it don't get carried away just because he's offering it to you. Ever wondered why he gave you that opportunity so quickly?

I own the SS SD43 and have thought about adding the TT SD43. Instead, I went for the TT Sub41 blue dial last year. If Rolex were to make a TT SD43 blue dial, I think I'd swap the Sub for the SD.

I love wearing TT at the weekend, but rarely do during the week. See, to me a SS diver or similar (YM, AT etc.) feels a little bit bland and understated so it's great from Monday to Friday. When I go out, I like something a bit more colourful on the wrist. SS and TT complement each other in a collection.

But you need to love TT…

If I went two tone it would be a Bluesy.
