Rolex 16550 Cream Dial _ Black Sorroundings ?
Hi all experts ;) I have been offered a 16550 with cream dial with black surroundings (and not WG) – should I be worried, or do you think this is possible as well? To polished or? Please see attached Photo :) Hope to hear from you..

Black surrounds are/were correct for tritium 16550s as far as I'm aware.

As above.
Although the bezel looks to be from a 16570. |

Just to check I wasn't going mad or having a bad memory day, I did a quick search on Chrono24... loads on there.

definitely a 16570 bezel. Verdict is still out on black surrounds being correct for 16550. I've seen very late 16550s retaining white gold surrounds so I lean that all black gold surrounds as being service dials. That said this dial looks like it was baked/artificially aged imo.

I share your concern, that dial doesn’t look naturally cream. It’s been reasonably well established but not conclusively that cream dials do appear with black surrounds but this one looks like it was tampered with. Better pix!!!

Mine... has white metal...
But as I posted... Chrono24 has loads with black surrounds... so, I'll back out and leave it to the Ex II experts... sorry. And good luck. |

the case wouldn't concern me, the artificially UV baked dial would.

I was told to stay away from cream dials with black surrounds. Correct me if i'm wrong.
