At what size to recommend DJ41 over DJ36?

I was looking at a couple DJ options in 41 and 36 and got me wondering at what wrist size is the 41mm option the "right" answer.

Obviously it boils down to personal preference (whether you like the more elegant look of a smaller case or the more substantial presence of a larger one) but I wanted to ask for others' opinions on here.

In my personal opinion, I have a 7" wrist and I think it's right on the border. The DJ41 definitely fits and looks great, but I could go either way. So if I had to make a general recommendation, I would recommend wrist sizes of 7.25" and above to go with 41 and 6.75 and below to go with 36. Anyone in the middle, take your pick!

What do you all think?

I have super tiny wrists but I still prefer the "modern" and "robust" size of the 41. It just feels more in line with my other Rolex watches that I have and hence I feel its the right size for me. Although I would not argue against anyone who says 36 is the classic size.

Yes agreed, 36mm definitely gives the classic look and feel.

It has nothing to do with wrist sizes, IMHO. It's about style and design.

The 36mm design has an old-school timeless elegance to it that the 41mm lacks. (I've tried/owned both sizes.) I also find the size/design of the hands and hour markers perfect on the 36mm, but they look too skinny on the bigger version. There's just too much real estate on the 41mm dial for the classic DJ design.

The 36mm DJ was fine for men's wrists of all sizes for, oh, about the last 76 years. Men's wrists haven't ballooned in that time, so not sure why some guys think 36mm needs to fit on a specific size of wrist.

I would say if you are under 6.5" wrist go with the 36. Anything over 6.5 go with the 41. The 41 is close to perfection

I am not a fan of watches over 40mm. The proportions start to get wonky. A 36mm Rolex has great wrist presence.

I find 39-40mm the perfect sweet spot for me in general.

Personally, my preference is the dj41 with a 6.5 in wrist.
The "DJ41" actually measures 39.5mm. Depending on your configuration (dial color, bracelet, bezel type) it can wear larger or smaller. I find smooth bezel, dark dial, and jubilee all translate into a smaller wearing experience. I also find the "41" accommodates the cyclops much better. Also, the lug to lug of 47 mm is just right.

Thanks for your comment. You make a great point regarding bezels - fluted vs. smooth can definitely make a big difference in how big the watch feels.

I love the proportions of the DJ36, classic and elegant and works on most wrists. It worked on Fast Eddy in The Color of Money, and so did the DD36 on Tony Soprano.

I have one with the silver champagne dial, and find it wears bigger and has a great wrist presence. It is my dress watch that I wear to work everyday. If I want to wear a big watch, I will wear my sub.

There's not really too much of a blueprint for this because personal style and taste really come into play here.

I personally don't like large watches so I'd gravitate toward the 36mm with my 6.5-inch wrist. I don't think the 41mm wouldn't work on my wrist size, I just don't necessarily think it works for me personally.

I have 7 inch wrist, and sold my DJ41 , it’s not sports watch but too big for dress , and get 36 in my opinion best configuration. But after 2 -3 weeks on wrist 40mm sports watch its feeling small but very comfort .

There’s a size below which you cannot wear the 41 without it looking off. But to me there’s no real maximum on the 36. Perhaps if your hand cannot fit through the bracelet without adding links?

In between it’s just a matter of taste.

Somewhat subjective, I suppose. I have a 7in wrist and think it looks too big, so I'm going with that one.

Exactly. Years ago I bought a 36 mm Datejust and I had to add an extra link. That’s a good sign that the watch was too small for me.

Go with the size that looks best on your wrist, it is nonsense to go by wrist size alone it has to be how the watch looks and feels on your wrist.

An AD 'should have' both sizes in stock even if they are TT versions, at least you could try them on to see which size fits your wrist best.

I tend to agree with you. I’m 7 inches (my wrist, of course) and my 36mm is perfect. It’s comfortable and and doesn’t look faddishly oversized. If I was any bigger I’d go 41mm.

Something to also consider is if you are wearing it under a sleeve or not. Smaller watches are more comfortable if worn with long sleeves.

You will chose what your eyes are used to look a. But personally prefer a 36 for the DJ range and think a 41 is too big for the purpose i.e its not a sport watch imo

I have an 8.15 in. wrist. A DJ 36 looks, ah, small. My DJ 41 looks just right.
