Incoming (sort of a grail piece)!

Finally pulled the trigger on a piece that I have been thinking about on and off for years. It's not a Rolex/PP/AP, but I looked past the hype pieces and went after what I felt was a special one and a true example of haute horology.

Counting down the hours till the FedEx truck arrives!

For real. It's time to just buy what you love. Here's hoping it's a nice Lange or something dressy.

I’m not a betting person.
My money is on, a Lange 1 or a Datograph

FedEx truck came early today!

My first proper dress watch was the ALS Saxonia Thin 37mm in rose gold. At the time, it checked off all the attributes I wanted in a dress watch. Over time though, I found I seldomly wore it, especially during the pandemic since I rarely dressed up. The me is a beautiful and pure dress watch, but I almost felt it was too svelte to be worn with anything less than business casual attire. I also felt a tad bit bored with looking at a time only piece not even having a seconds hand.

After much back and forth though, I decided to upgrade to a piece I have been thinking about on and off for years. Some of you guessed correctly...the Lange 1 Moonphase in rose gold. Went back to the same AD I purchased the Saxonia, and traded it in for the L1 MP. My AD told me that ALS discounts will likely be going away soon, so I pulled the trigger now.

I definitely wanted to stick with the RG to differentiate from the stainless steel pieces I already have. I also love Lange's shade of RG. The Lange 1 MP offers just a bit more in terms of overall size and complications to make it more versatile with various attire, while still retaining dress watch characteristics. Since my wrist is only 6.4", the Lange 1 was a much better fit for a non-sports watch, as opposed to the Grand Lange 1. I was considering some other ALS models such as the 1815 Annual Calendar too, but decided to stick with Lange's iconic model. What tipped me over the edge towards this particular piece is Lange's implementation of the moonphase. I don't think there is a better one out there. The moon itself is nice, but what is truly sublime is the day/night wheel. Beautiful hues of daylight sky and twilight stars!

So far, I only have two criticisms of the piece. First, at this price point, a deployant clasp should definitely have been part of the package. A more minor issue that could just be particular to me is that the crown is not the easiest to pull out if you keep your nails clipped short like I do.

I plan on getting at least one additional strap and giving thought to the deployant clasp. For now, I will enjoy it as is through the holiday season!

Congrats!
Regarding the deployant, I have tried it and much prefer the tang buckle - due to its unique design it lies pretty flat whereas the deployant adds bulk to the underside of the wrist. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks! When using the deployant, did you find that if using the same strap, you would end up having to use one hole looser vs the hole used with the tang buckle?

And thanks everyone else!

I didn’t end up buying it because when i put it on my watches (Lange 1, 1815 chrono) w my straps I just didn’t like it - can’t remember if it uses same hole . But the deployant uses the regular Lange straps.

Congratulations! Nobody does a moonphase like Lange from the movement to the subdial. I'd love to add one to my collection someday.

Very nice. You cannot beat Lange. Perhaps Vacheron can come close, but as a brand Lange hits all the marks.

Lange 1 in the version you have chosen is the creme de la creme of a German manufacture. Congratulations!

Congrats on the upgrade and actually looked at both of those before deciding on the same watch you have now.
