Rolex food pics…
Okay so I’m really not judging here but just genuine curiosity. Why is it on social media platforms 80% of wrist shots feature food in the background? Just saw one of a sub and a bowl of noodles and my first thought was is he about about to go noodle diving? Totally get wanting to show off a time piece and what not but man I’d love to see more pics of watches in the wild rather than a Daytona on a plate of tater tots………..on second thought I’d probably enjoy the subtle orange tones of a tater tot next to a James Cameron. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Cheers!

So you prefer wrist shots while taking down an old barn? It’s safe btw. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Sometime it's a desire (conscious or not) to make the photo look candid. If you set your watch (or any possession that you want to show off) on a table and take a shot of it, then it implies "hey check out my awesome [blank]!" But if there's food in the background (or a steering wheel, or a beach) you're kind of saying "what, this old thing?", like a humblebrag.
Another possibility is that you want to show off something in addition to the primary focus. So the person posting the photo may be showing off their watch, but what they're really hoping is that someone will mention what's in the background (steering wheel, beach, etc.) In short: people are vain-yet-insecure creatures and the best we can do is try to be nice to each other. |
