Do you Wordle?

After seeing a NYTimes article on a new word game a guy created for his gal, I started tuning in every morning.

Git along little brain cells, git along!

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

Wordle Is a Love Story The word game has gone from dozens of players to hundreds of thousands in a few months. It was created by a software engineer in Brooklyn for his partner. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/03/t...e-creator.html

I can't get it to work. It just says "not in word list" even when I've gone through the entire alphabet

It is an interesting game. But a teaser. So many choices. At this moment the word “crank” was the answer and then it changes after a while to a new word.

It could drive one to drink…

You get one game per day. There are only 2500 words in the "dictionary". I'm assuming everyone gets the same word ...

After coffee but before checking the sixth race at Belmont, I gave wordle a whirl ..

OK, this morning's word was hard. By 3rd entry I had three of the five letters.

Not only could I not figure it out, I dropped off a correct letter on the 6th entry!

Looking forward to a quiet 45 minute swim in an hour; the ymca will be empty!

You're very welcome, Ferdelious. Not sure why I clicked on the article, figured my ex-GF would find it first and send it to me, so I pulled a proactive reverse.

This morning again I failed. It's akin to card-counting [probabilities], associations, and a decent vocabulary.

As noted, the creator determined there were about 10,000 5-letter words but only about 2,500 which she would recognize.

This game has gone viral on the originator’s website. So much so that a copycatter put up an iOS App as a rip-off of the originator’s game.

Apple just suspended his App.

In today's WSJ there was a blurb about the fake Wordle sites ...

I get the results image by hitting the Share [Results copied to clipboard] and pasting into a text Message to myself. Then grab a screen capture.

Evidently it does not copy and paste as one mighty.

Does anyone use a first word strategy? Like using the same word every time?

Sort of. A first word list in Notes. It's down to one word which I may or may not use tomorrow. A nothing special, random word using five different letters.

Die hards are using letter frequency 1st words, I hear. I play for the challenge, makes me think with the first cuppa. Sometimes I'm up darn early, do not watch cable news or T V in general. A word game is as good as anything for a break.

Although a root beer with a bowl of kettle chips, extra dark, might be a tie for best. Hey, I added another starting word, and it is not 'chips'.

Always start with BREAD. Good solid consonants & popular vowels!

This morning I started with an unlikely, difficult word to guess. Really made me think when two letters were both correct and in the right space.

An excellent past-time with morning tea; makes me think but even more, as I think of words, I remember other stuff.

My wife and I have been playing every morning together. It's fun! We were big Scrabble players back in the day and love word games. We've gotten to the point where we almost always figure it out in 4 turns. 1 try is blind luck. 2 tries is still almost blind luck. Averaging under 4 turns takes a bit of luck and a lot of skill.

It’s fun and pretty quick. I like that it’s free with no ads, and that the guy who created it did so out of love, not money, for his partner to play.

My wife and I play each day (she is much better than me).

Looks like he ended up getting paid. NY Times is rumored to have paid low 7 figures for it.
