Break in and Rolex

I have friend whose Rolex got stolen due to break in but he did not secure it- was in master bathroom drawer.
These stories of break in- I wonder if they are all same - left it unsecured or was it a more a safe break in?

Would it have made a difference if it was in a home safe? I wonder.

Home lockbox, no. They just take the box. If it’s a true home safe, lagbolted to the floor, they are not getting in. Not unless they have a lot of tools or a torch. I have yet to see a thread about someone having their safe cracked by burglars. I’m sure it happens but that’s not really what most break ins are about.

I feel the safest place to keep things is not in a safe but a place where a thief would never look.

Exactly! Right behind the last row of canned foods in the back of my pantry!

Sorry to hear about your friend OP. That's terrible!

How about in a zip lock bag inside the tank of a toilet?

Master bedroom/bathroom is absolutely the worst place to keep valuable items because thieves look there first. I would just hide the watches somewhere where no one would look and have a security system. A Safe is good too as long as it is hidden somewhere good and secured into the structure of the house otherwise someone will just take the whole safe and open it elsewhere.
