How Will FHB’s Statement Affect Availability?

According to the Instagram account @swisswatches, a lot of these 50th anniversary pieces will be allocated to new clients. Interested to hear thoughts on how this will affect availability for new and existing clients. Could new clients realistically stand a chance of getting a 16202 without purchase history?

Francois trippin man…what in the world? It makes sense…but majority??

The patient folks on this forum still waiting for a piece who put in requests in 21/20 hopefully get priority. Ain’t no way a ‘22 request walks in and gets it unless they have some internal vetting/criteria from this year who they’re specifically trying to target

Who knows…just pray

Where does it say "majority"? "big chunk" could be 20% or 80%, who knows. I'm sure it won't be random walk-ins, though.

Availability?

Sometimes I think about the 99% of people who cant even dream of being able to afford an AP. What availability?

It all feels so meaningless sometimes. At the end of the day its just a couple of cheap brass metal gears driven by a spring to tell time.

Its not important.

I mean this is a watch forum and we are here to talk about watches. Enjoying the hobby does not preclude one from entrepreneurial and charitable pursuits.

Forgive me, but, what do you think?

I don't see this as anything more than lip service for marketing purposes.

It seems highly unlikely, given that people who’ve spent silly money on AP’s still can’t get their desired pieces. But at the same time, why would he make such a statement if there weren’t any truth to it?

As someone trying to get into the brand… fingers crossed, is just difficult to imagine a newbie being allocated a popular piece.

kudos to AP; this may not be the 'perfect' method to process allocations but at least they seem to be addressing concerns regarding availability for new comers to the hobby. i applaud the fact that they're at least considering ways to keep the hobby interesting as opposed to the usual 'pay to play, yadda yadda.' hope Rolex is keeping it's eyes open.

Would a brand new customer who puts an interest for a particular model in 2020/2021 be given priority over one who indicates an interest in 2022?

I assume there are going to be a lot of "New Clients" that are simply the wives/partners of existing clients...

Yeah, I mean, there's no accountability here. It's not like they're publishing a transparency report.

So, it's just lip service.

I own one watch - a 15202 that I purchased at retail from an AP boutique in 2020. I'm not anyone special (even though my mommy tells me I am) and don't have any connections. Just showed genuine passion for the brand and the Royal Oak. It is possible.

Can't imagine it gets any worse.

Last time I was at AP Beverly Hills, maybe December before they shutdown for remodeling, speaking with the group, they said EVERY 30 minutes someone comes in asking for a RO. I was there for ~15 minutes and two people off the street walked in inquiring.

Insanity. I do hope and believe from talking with AP corporate they REALLY want to bring new individuals and collectors into the brand. The focus will always continue to favor true enthusiasts, new or existing to the brand.

He's not implying anything. He's a marketer. He's doing a phenomenal job at it.

Let me tell you this: if you want the standard variant, without the 50th anniversary rotor, it may be possible after a few years wait. No guarantee. If you want the ones with the 50th anniversary rotor, GOOD F**KING LUCK if you believe what FHB said. One year production run, with limited numbers, and it’s going to new customers? I have a bridge to sell you.
I’m not expecting Horoloupe to have one then!

Is the 50th anniversary rotor only on the new references announced yesterday, for 2022? For example will a 15500 produced in 2022 have the 50th rotor?

Based on an interview that FHB did with Austen Chu (Horoloupe), he said that all watches AP produces this year will apparently have the 50-yr rotor.. so while he didn’t explicitly say the existing models would also have the rotor, that was my assumption from watching the interview.

Thanks, for context that’s why I was asking the question. FHB may have meant “all new references”. Really hope we can get an answer to this as I much prefer the traditional rotor.

Is it bad that I don't want the 50th anniversary rotor? I prefer the original coat of arms one.

There’s no right or wrong answer tbh.. it’s just that it’s nice to have one that is related to the 50th anniversary. 1972-2022. Personally it’s a great thing to add to the collection with that extra little touch at the back. But hey one can daydream right haha!

Had a brief chat with the SA about getting a ROC this morning. Asked for a ROC in Khaki Green with the 50th anniversary. Told me to get a CODE or a ROO. Said Goodbye to AP. The end.

I can post screenshots of the conversation to dispute the quote said by FHB about the 50th anniversary collection going to “newcomers” but out of respect for the person I won’t. So while I respect FHB as a leader, don’t sell false hope to people who are going to rush to the AP boutique showing the SAs this quote and give them a hard time for something we all know is IMPOSSIBLE. Be honest like TS abut the green 5711 - we know everybody wants one, but some will be disappointed. An honest statement is better than a fancy lie!

Honestly, I was planning to get a CODE eventually. The chronograph with ceramic is of interest to me as I have said a couple of times on the forum. But I don’t tolerate people shoving things down my throat. I don’t do BJs. Relationship goes both ways.
