Thoughts On Age Of Insert

I just purchased a GMT II 16710. It's a Y serial with lug holes, so it was made sometime in 2003 or 2004 from what I can gather. The clasp is stamped AD1, which is 2003, so I have no concerns there. My curiosity is with the Pepsi insert. I know the serif font inserts are older, but would a Y serial have come with the serif insert? I have seen a few A serial GMT II's with them, which was right around the GMT discontinuation overlap in '98-'99 I believe. I will probably throw a new bezel on it anyway, as I wear this watch everyday and I'm sure the fade will continue on the red parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

That is the plan! I have always admired/had watches since a very young age, and this one is “the tops!”

Fab!! The 16700 was my first Rolex. 1994. As you’ll see, the bezel should be a serif I think and I believe was swapped out at an early service. Otherwise original
