Batman 116710 vs. 126710 BLNR Oyster - which one to buy
Hey there!
I am just in the process of buying a Batman and have two offers: A Batman 116710BLNR from 06/2017, good condition, a few little scratches on the clasp and the band for € 17.500 and a brand new 126710BLNR from 2021, never worn, perfect condition for around € 22.500. Which one would you choose? Which one has the better chance to grow in value over the next years? Both have pretty much the best price in the EU currently. Is the premium of € 5.000 for the 126 worth a potential higher rise in value or the slightly better movement etc. I would take both with oyster band. |

No one really knows what will rise in value or not. If you're looking at it only for value perspective, you're probably asking in the wrong place. Get the watch if you like it and intend on wearing it. If investment is your only thing, go for an index fund. Much more stable than a hot commodity.

I'd prefer to go new but the difference is a lot. 116710 has a proven movement too.

Personally, I'd go for the 116710BLNR even if they were priced the same. The 3186 movement doesn't have the issues that some of the 126710s with the 3285 movement are known to have. With the price difference, the case for the 116710 is even stronger. Just my $.02.

I stand with Stan on this one! My 3186 movement is incredibly accurate. Especially when compared to my 3 3285 movement Rolex.

I’d go with 116710 for reasons others have mentioned. Quite a sizable savings, too.

If the condition of the two watches in question are pretty much the same, I would go for the cheaper one. I like the updated movement but not for $5000 more.

Given the price difference between the two, I would go with the 116710BLNR.

Wow, 5 grand difference! I normally would go for newest, but that is a hard pill to swallow. If in very good condition, think I would recommend the 11. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Both great pieces. BLNR first then BLRO for me.

My vote goes towards the original especially given $5k difference.

The lower price and the proven movement of the 116710 would make me personally favor it. They both will end up scratched unless you play on keeping them in a glass case, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying a watch.

I don't like to speculate, but based on the simple question of which is the better purchase value, I'd say the 116710BLNR, as $5000 euros is a significant percentage difference given the asking prices.

116710BLNR is better "value".
126710BLNR is going to perform better going forward, assuming you don't wear it. The new watch is going to outperform the used one with some scratches. |

I own the 126710blnr on jubilee and I love it, it’s my favorite watch. That said I wouldn’t pay that premium over the 116710blnr. The power reserve difference isn’t worth it. I have no idea which one would hold better value in the future. If you’re worried about it’, I would wait to buy the 126710blnr at the AD. Buying at msrp might make value retention less of an issue for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wouldn’t pay much more for the 126710 over the 116710. Surely not 5k.

If power reserve is important to you then go with the newer model, otherwise save some cash.

One thing to note for the 126710 is that it is easier to swap bracelets. If you have plans to get the BLRO at some point it may be worthwhile. That said though that price difference is pretty steep.

Can easily put a super jubilee on the 116710 with the right spring bars. With the money saved on the 116710, OP can buy a super jubilee no problem and still have money leftover.

Unless I wanted the jubilee bracelet I'd go for the 116. The 126 has just gone up 20% in the last few weeks on the secondary market because its so correlated to the BLRO which is now nearly 3x mrsp.
At the current price point, and taking into consideration that you are buying at retail and when you sell it will be at trade or private you need to consider you will only achieve 20-25% below secondary market retail pricing. So to break even you have to wait until the market rises a further 25% to get your money back. A common mistake now being made by new entrants into the watch world is they value their watch based on chrono24 pricing and the advertised price from grey dealers. These inflated prices are not achievable by retail punters, it is pie in the sky. Contact a few greys and try to get firm bids on the watch youre buying as if you want to sell it. If you can get a price out of them without sending pics etc then bare in mind they usually knock you a few more % when you actually get the watch to them, if it's worn they will find something that you didn't mention or the market will have softened over the last few days bla bla bla. The bottom line is this. Buy a watch to wear and enjoy, yes of course we all want to retain as much value as possible and maybe even make a few quid BUT that is secondary and a bonus if it happens. Watches are in fashion now, they have been for a few years, will it last? Maybe, maybe not who knows. The economy may take a downturn and it may have a negative impact on the luxury watch market, who knows? Interst rates are rising which means less disposable income for people, will that affect the watch market? Will watches carry on going up? Maybe. Buy how much? Who knows. |

Now take the 116710 which is out of collection and register on the AD list for the 126... with the money saved and what you will have time to put aside in 3 years of waiting, at the end, you will have the 2

If you only want one watch, a BLNR then go grey. If you are a collector and want to grow your collection and build a relationship with an AD along the way then go that route, buy some watches whilst waiting for you BLNR.....and hope it doesn't get discontinued before you get 'the call'. |

If I were you, I’d walk away from both. Your post made it seem that neither watch “sung to you”, but rather “how can I hop on the Rolex train and make a few bucks”.
