Tried on a Platona today...

First off... Whoa.

Second off.. it is the heaviest watch to ever grace my wrist.

It was a sale piece from the safe destined for a local whale who was not me. My SA is superior in the fact that he shows me legit pieces for sale and I don't pester him about selling anything to me.

Just wanted to share a really great experience wearing an ultra heavy hitter.

PS, he also pulled the OP blue dial out of the safe for me to try on and play with. Grey market price aside, I would not pull the msrp trigger on that one.

Nice. I heard it’s a heavy beast. We have a doctor member here who treated his like a wrench and it held up.

(Now waiting for the Rolex police to say you shouldn’t have worn a sold watch and the SA is bad human for letting you )

I haven’t seen the doc here in some time, and he used to be a frequent poster.

I think every hour on the forum was costing him $50k in billing’s so he probably figured that’s enough.

Definitely has an aura when you strap that thing on. Too heavy for me but can appreciate why people love it.

Same Tom

I remember trying one on back in the day at an AD in Oakville. Heavy is an understatement

It does. It weighs half as much as the YG President he also showed me. It truly is unbelievable how heavy it is.

Huh? So the YG weighs more than the platinum?

Whoops.. I actually meant to say the full YG President weighed half as much. I have a bit of dyslexia.

280 grams. It is very heavy but you get used to it, it can be a bit much if wearing it all day long.

Yeah, way too heavy. I've been wearing one all day for over five years and it still ain't comfy!

Truly, I and others on here have noticed that you feel the weight when you first put it on, but it melts away quickly -- perhaps after a short break-in period when you first get it. Then you don't notice it at all unless you think about it. But if you think about it, you can definitely feel the weight.

Well......I'm guessing you have found this already.

Wow, that's a lot more than I expected. Too heavy I'd say.

If you get lost in the desert, you will walk around in circles centered on the side you wear the watch.

Gold watches are about 50% heavier than steel
And platinum is about 30% heavier than gold ones.

I wore a dd40 yellow gold and it was surprisingly light and smaller than I expected on my wrist.

The dd40 platinum actually felt heavy when I wore it.

I imagine the DD40 and platona are the same in weigh and comfort. Main difference is the presidential bracelet and it’s hidden clasp vs the double lock oyster clasp

It's a really cool watch. I love the heft of the platinum. Almost got one a few years ago when they were relatively easy to obtain at the AD, but just didn't really go for the brown. If the brown accents had been replaced with black, it would have left the store with me.

It’s very comfortable actually - being a Daytona.

I could see platinum comfort being an issue if it was on a sky dweller.

I tried on the Platona several times, and actually wore one for about 30 minutes at a gray-market seller's showroom. Way, way too heavy for me.

Sure, you can get used to wearing just about anything. You can get used to a rock stuck in your shoe. But for a timepiece at that price point, even at retail, the comfort level needs to be perfect, not something you learn to get used to.

As a side note, over $200K on the gray market now? Talk about insanity.

But I do believe you have a 6263 Daytona And what a beauty it is. So why would one even think of a Platona??? Love your Daytona hope I got the number correct. Thanks for all your posts I just love your piece

It is truly a heavy watch but on the average, after 17minutes and 23 seconds it no longer feels heavy. (Finally have a use for the chronograph.)
