Why Rolex SUB 11661x Hated by collectors?
Not too long ago
116610 SUB CERAMIC and its variations is loved by Rolex collectors and they called it BEST ROLEX SUB EVER Produce Now when 126610 and variations was introduced 11661X are Hated and called one of the worst SUB ?They said if you buy a sub, either 16610 or 126610 and should ignore 116610?? Why opinion change so fast ? what make 126610 so much better than 116610 that we should bypass the Maxi Sub C?? |

I haven’t seen anyone “hate” on the 11 series. Lots of people praise it for the reliability of the 3135 movement.
Personally it is indeed the one I like the least. The 126610/124060 is better proportioned in my opinion and it is the one I would get if I wanted a modern Submariner. However I prefer the older 5-digit references and decided on a 14060 which is even better proportioned to my eye, and has the charm of the tritium lume. Admittedly it is not as refined or advanced as the newer references, but I still prefer it anyway. |

I've seen no hate, just preferences.

Hate is a pretty strong word.
Some dislike the 11 series but personally for me, this is the perfect sub in every way. 11 Feels very top heavy which I like and tapers nicely to the clasp. The thicker lugs make it feel very modern and industrial. Each to their own. Both are timeless pieces. |

The Rolex Submariner is the best watch ever made. All editions. With each edition came those who just like to complain about things. Some didn't like the case of the 116610 when it first came out while others preferred it. I sold my 116610 for the 126610 to help a friend and I think both are fantastic watches. I really like to the 3235, I think it feels smoother when winding but it's not like if I have the chance to buy a 116610 again that I won't. Or a 5 digit or 4 digit, or like I said, the best watch ever, no matter what the model number.

Hate is such an ugly, spiteful decisive state of mind. I wouldn't take any notice of haters.
If you substitute hate with preference or dislike, I have not seen the tendency you describe. If you have done a meta analysis, please share the data. The 11 series was a big leap from the 1 series and was regarded by many, me included, as the best Submariner to date, when it was in production. The 12 series was another significant shift. Some prefer it to the 11, some don't, some like both. So what? Something for everyone. The 1 series had fallen well behind the industry average for build and finish. But it had a huge fan base and still does. Look at what they are worth now compared to their original MSRP. Again, something for everyone. |

It's just a matter of those who prefer the wider / boxier case vs the more streamlined case of the 5 digit and 12xxxx series Subs.
No hate. I'd say all Subs get a lot of love. |

Personally I find the "hulk" the least iconic sub. Its got both the ugly, thick lugs and a washed out garden furniture plastic coloured bezel
And no, I'm not joking

huh? LOL
Where you getting that info from The 116610 versions are the best versions. There are collectors like me that prefer the thicker lugs and the smaller bracelet. It feel perfect for me. |

I disagree too.
The 16610 was ace, it got a power-up.. ..to a 116610 more substantial and modern equivalent which did for a while until it got a power-up.. ..to the 126610 which was even more substantial and modern. I love them all. |

The 11x reminds me of what I dislike the most about the Swiss culture: trying to be modern while being stubbornly conservative. Rolex wanted wrist presence but couldn’t move from the Sub’s 40mm original size. It only took them a decade to let go of that.

As many mentioned, I don’t think ppl hated the 11 series, but when you look at the 12 series subs they are far better imo. I personally disliked the maxi case, I felt it went a little too far from the original and timeless Sub we love.
One good thing to mentioned about the previous subs the movement proven and silent movement. The 12 series movement can be s little loud for some. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why Rolex SUB 11661x Hated by collectors?
I wouldn’t say hate, more like people prefer the new design given the choice to buy. They’re both great.

To me the 11 series was perfect. They then introduced the 12 series which showed me the 11 series was not quite perfect after all.
Both are great watches, it’s just the 12 series is a little more refined IMHO. |

Nice movement but dodgy design
5 digits give the best of both worlds

Side by side in real life you really have to look twice to notice the differences.
Nothing wrong with either of the models

as other have said, I don't think anyone literally hates the 11.
But the 12 is so worthy of praise. Such subtle changes but it's just so much closer to perfect. I have a hulk, and I think the maxi case suits it well. But for the black sub, the 12 wears so much better and is more subtle. It just works. |

My supercase Sub definitely bothered me after a few months of looking at the chubby lugs and skinny bracelet. I don't think I fully hated it, as I did not throw it in the trash or give it away, and preferred it over no Rolex at all, but I haven't missed it once.
But don't let that get to you, I got rid of it to get a more universally hated Rolex, the DSSD tuna can/wrist cheeseburger/flava flav special, and I haven't found a Rolex I like better yet. You do you, other people's opinions of your watch shouldn't be a factor. |

People don’t like the thickness of the lugs, which I don’t have an issue with.

I turned down the 114060 and 116610LV six years ago partly because I didn't like the supercase fat lugs. My preference is the more slender YM/SD43/Sub41 case with nicer tapered lugs. But that doesn't mean the 116610 is not a fantastic piece. Some people will prefer it over the 126610. Just a matter of taste, that's all.

I dunno. IMHO find the 116610 and the 126610 subs equally beautiful, and equally ugly at the same time.

I have several and love them. I do wish lugs were slimmer but I don't like the 21mm bracelet on the 12 series so whatever. Enjoy them - they are great watches!

I wish people would collectively hate watches that I like so prices would come down.
I also have seen no "hate" for the previous generation Submariner line. Some prefer it, some prefer the 41mm, some don't see much difference. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk |

Know that the 4 digit Daytona's were "hated" for their design and yet they are one if not the most desirable watches of all time.
You'll see a lot of praise for the 126*** series at the moment, but if or when Rolex releases a new reference with a smaller clasp, for example, or a movement upgrade that address the issues of the 3235 movement; you'll hear the same people criticizing the 126*** In conclusion, when people are spending in the 5 figures for a watch, you can expect them to nitpick on every little thing |
