Can you tell SS/WG/PLATINUM Rolex from distance?

Without knowing about that specific reference

Could you tell the different between SS/WG/PLATINUM Rolex just by outlook? and How can you do that ?

If most of us cannot, there are no reason to buy WG/PLA over SS , Isn't it ?

Yes after seeing all 3, the metals and alloys have different shine. Again we are assuming all same dial and bezel but that is not possible. All pretty much have their own personality.

often, yes:

Reference: daydate will only be WG or platinum, not steel (for modern watches)
Dial
Bracelet (president vs oyster)

Indeed. That's pretty much the whole point of WG or platinum.

That’s the reason I chose WG. Yellow and rose just scream for attention. I love that someone who doesn’t know watches might think i am wearing a $100 watch with a rubber strap

The WG and SS I can easily see the difference owning both.
Pt I have no experience with unfortunately.

⬆️⬆️ Exactly!
From a distance over a few feet, I myself would have a tough time telling those metals apart, unless I could actually see the (Rolex)reference.

Slight difference and a big reason I would never be interested. Pretty much only you know and can feel the difference, but the SS Rolex has wrist presence regardless to me.

Can you tell from afar if the crown on the crown screw is facing up?
If most of us cannot, there is no reason to bother where it is facing.

They do all have different hues aesthetically.
I think most buy PM for the feel on the wrist. It’s a whole different ballgame.

If the main driver in buying PM is to impress others from a distance, YG is the best choice.

White gold you can especially if the lighting is right. Platinum is virtually impossible to tell from steel on someone else’s wrist.

Depending on lighting usually it's very hard to tell. This coming from owning a white gold DayDate and god knows how many datejusts and subs. With that said.... If you spot a president bracelet, a blue faced submariner or daytona you know what it is...

I agree with whats said earlier, it's a different feel wearing gold vs steel.

It’s not just about looks but weight and feel.

Yes, fairly easy for me to tell.
But I wouldn’t get PM just to show others you have PM. It’s not just about looks but also about how it feels.

Hard to tell an Invicta at a distance too!

To OP, always really hard to justify the WG premium in normal times. Touch to the skin though is qualitatively very different due to how to metal reacts to the body heat.
