Is their any rolex model you wouldn’t buy from your AD at retail price?

Considering most AD’s have no inventory, if you walked in and they had a watch or two is their any model you would not purchase?

  • Oversized models that would look ridiculous on my puny wrist (deepsea, YM-II, SD43, explorer II and sky-dweller if I am being honest)
  • Undersized models <36 mm (including the Explorer 35mm aka ref. 124270)
  • Ladies DJ
  • Anything with diamonds
  • Frankly, anything that doesn't sing to me.

I only buy what I absolutely love, fits me comfortably, and only "Keepers" as I like to think of them... lifetime pieces for lifetime memories.

I wouldn't buy 99% of them at retail. There's only a select few watches that I still want.

Same here. Just a handful that I would consider.

I'm not in the market. I have a good enough relationship with my AD that I can just tell my SA what I want and he calls me when he has it. So far about a month wait each time.

That being said, I'm not asking for the moon here. No, "I need both a white and a black Daytona with a John Mayer chaser." Though honestly I would LOVE to have the John Mayer chaser.

So many. I buy only what I want to wear. No one loves the whole catalog... lots of dogs in there...

There was and still is less than a handful of Rolex models that I actually want.

Without the FOMO and/or hype the only moveable models are really down to the Daytona and GMT. The balance through the past few years have taken on the hype. Yes, including PMs models of the other two and the Sub line in general.

Honestly not so long ago there was barely any issues getting the balance immediately or within an appropriate amount of time.

Same approach as I did in 2018. Walked in and bought the watch I wanted which was an Explorer 1. Had that, a Sub, and black GMT in front of me to debate with zero purchase history. The only other pieces I wanted were the BLRO and Daytona which I didn't bother asking for and bought from a grey ($27k USD on a BNIB White Daytona with stickers, etc. etc.... lol "the good old days?").

Nowadays, its just laughable. I really don't bother walking into the store or really looking at Rolex. You get treated as if it's a privilege to buy the most undesirable lady's datejust. Love the watches, the brand, but not the symbol.

I would only get what I want...

This kind of question indicates what is wrong with this hobby.

I’m far from being a flipper, I own 3 Rolex’s one from each the 80’s, 90’s and 2019. Considering how difficult it is for most people to find a Rolex these days among other things I for one don’t mind buying and wearing it for a while and then selling it and trying another model. I see it as renting it at little or no cost. That said I don’t believe I would be interested in anything other than a sports model. Of coarse my local ADs seem to only be selling to flippers and their top customers.

So many,
- Skydweller (to big for me)
- DD (I just don't get it, and I don't think modern presidents wear it anymore)
- YM (the dial is just too specialized)
- Lady DateJust
- Miilgass
- Cellini
- pearlmaster

but never say never

I only really want a polar Explorer II, so I’d pass on pretty much everything else. I passed on a desirable model today in fact.

However, if they had an Air-King or a Cellini Time in rose gold I’d probably grab them.

DSSD, YM2, Milgaus, Air King, Sky Dweller, and a number of others. In fact, people may think I’m crazy, but I don’t particularly like the Daytona.
