BOB's said no thanks to SD43

Although I really appreciate my SD43 I have been flirting with selling or trading it as it is just a bit big for my wrist I feel. I asked Bob's for a quote and they replied that they are not interested because they have a large inventory. However, on their website they only show 2 and they are selling them used for over $19k. It seems that they greys are also treating these as commodities. A normal seller would lower the price and sell a full stock, especially if they are asking above market, but they seem to be betting long. This whole thing has gone mad, all while LA police announced recommendation not to wear expensive jewelry due to high thefts, really turning these objects to just "investments".

I don’t think any of these watches should ever be seen as an investment. No one knows where the market will go with them. Especially with the SD43, they are readily available as most want submariners, always has been like this. Try crown and caliber, might have a shot there.

The SD43 is such a better watch in all aspects.

It’s a Submariner for adults.

Don’t care what anyone else thinks. I have no plans to sell mine and it fits me so much better than a sub.

Yeah I am not saying one is better than the other. The SD I am sure beats the sub in many ways. Just taking about demand and resale.

Either Bob's has 10 more in the safe and their rolling them out slowly as the ones on the website sell or they can get 3-4 on short notice from someone they've dealt with before and don't have to put out the cash immediately. It's one or the other.

I agree with you, but there's no way around it. It's the world we live in now. At let for the time being, possibly until we see a huge correction in the market.

I have a few watches I've stopped wearing. Do I call them investments? No. But I'm not wearing them, they sit in the safe, I have no plans to sell... so what are they!? haha.

I wouldn't do that to you. Just stay on the list, dont pay a penny over MSRP, it aint worth it IMHO

You should look at our trusted sellers as Bob’s watches leaves a lot to be desired. They will come in $5k under everyone else when giving a bid to buy your watch. They are a waist of time.

correct, listing a limited supply helps to sale as a buyer thinks he better grab it soon or someone else will get the watch, but in reality they will put another one on the web site for sale. Old trick in sales

You are missing my point, which is that they have too much inventory and don’t want mine, and yet they are selling theirs for $19k. It makes no sense when DSW has a better one for $16.5k. Why wouldn’t they try to move their inventory for a reasonable market price?

Bob’s sells $100M+ per year in pre-owned Rolexes, I’m sure they have the data to back their decisions. Recommend you don’t lose sleep over it.

Because Bob’s cost basis on this inventory is high. They probably paid a premium for the SD43 at the top of the market. Add in they are a high cost store and they need to charge 25% over what they paid.

Nice location, staff of 12+, very clean, etc. It’s an expensive operation.

I sold them a Sub at a good price years ago. They will try to purchase at the lowest cost and sell at the highest price every time.

Their website is the best in the industry.

Call another trusted seller. I’ve bought from every one of the ones who have shops listed in this forum. All 100% solid.

Bobs pays the least, in my experience.

So it was don’t wear it, or cover it up if you do. As Summer approaches, and you’re at the beach or out and about or playing sports - how would you cover up a Rolex.

So it comes down to “don’t wear it if it’s visible”. That makes good sense.

They didn’t say that. They said “if you are wearing visible jewelry be aware of your surroundings because you could be a target.” Nowhere did they say “don’t wear them”.

If you choose to interpret it that way for you personal behavior that’s totally cool. But let’s not say the “LAPD said not to wear watches or jewelry in public,” because they definitely didn’t.

I wear my mask over my watch when i'm not wearing it. But then I live in a country that doesn't politicise mask wearing. They do it because it helps.

In a democracy no police will tell you what to do, so technically you are correct. I meant that they are highlighting the dangers of wearing expensive jewelry, something new for LAPD in the many years I have lived in LA.
