Because the old Air King is the better version with the gold 3,6,9, flieger 5, and no crown guards.

That is far from a concensus. Many think the new design fixed 3 design flaws.

Old one was terrible IMO. New one is slightly less terrible.

To OP, Grey dealers can set the price at 100k. Doesn’t mean a ton of people will pay.

Reminder - what you see at a grey dealer is the asking price, not the sold price.
They do not advertise these as that is the private amount agreed between seller and buyer.
Don't believe all the hype you get spoon-feed.

I think he answer is obvious…..it’s discontinued. Although, this is one reference that the discontinuation hype will be very short lived IMO. I personally believe the newer version is all around better, and the old AK will drop in price a bit from previous values on the secondary market.
I could be wrong, but JMO

The Air King has never been popular and until the speculators started buying it in anticipation of the watch being discontinued it was a difficult reference to sell. Now, a lot of people, including Greys, are into the watch deep and are trying to prop it up. This will be one of the few references we will see adjust downward in significant way in the coming months. Even at half of the current Grey price I pass.

It always happens, even tho it's not discontinued it's like a whole different piece now.

Technically the previous version has been discontinued and there is a new model with changed features.

The reference 116900 is no longer sold at Rolex and now is limited forever to the existing watches. Just like the 39mm Explorer.

Your AD will look wt your newer Rolex and say “we don’t offer more than MSRP” for these new models 5 years young. They may sell in the “used and estate” cases for what you wish to get.

Many people say it’s because of No cyclops. Chances of being robbed drops considerably.
