Which Rolex equivalent of the JLC Reverso?
Would it be the OP or maybe Explorer? Or should it be the Sub?

Why do you want to make that connection?
In my opinion, Cellini is the closest one. |

Learn something new every day - thanks to the forum! Rolex Prince - when was this made? I also have a Reverso and it is one of my favorites but do not find enough situations to wear it. Absolutely love this watch! This photo does not do it justice. Between the guilloche (sp?) and sub dial this thing really pops in real life - and for the price cannot be beat!

The JLC Reverso has no equals. I can't imagine any watch company to build a watch for polo players and be successful. They'd have to find another niche sport to solve a problem for. In that sense the YM is closest because of its special function for sailing.

OP is a good call
Lots of people seem to think it's a dress watch!

My vintage Rolex Prince doctor style dial,IMHO the modern day ones are pretenders.

When you say the modern ones are pretenders, can you elaborate. Not sure I follow. Is there something special the vintage ones do that the modern ones don't? |

Its silver around 1938-40 date-wise well the vintage Prince were the first so the modern day are just pretenders.

Very glad you are looking in to all thinks Rolex makes a refreshing change to what you see mostly on forum lately. Myself been studying the history of the RWC for the past 50 plus years, and when you dig deep there is a lot of history about the Rolex brand.

Reverso is an icon. For Rolex, in the same price range, it would be DJ or Submariner.

Sub came along later and built on what the OP started. That’s why the latter, along with the Reverso, stand out as the “originals” (in this analogy at least). |

Many Rolex round cased model are basically built on the foundation of the Oyster Perpertual concept (Explorer, Explorer 2, DJ, DD, Sub, GMT etc). As are Reverso GMT, Duo Face, Moonphase etc that are built based on the basic case design of the Reverso. So the OP and Reverso 3-handers can be considered equivalents in terms of their influences on subsequent models that built off of those foundations. |
