Learn something new every day - thanks to the forum! Rolex Prince - when was this made? I also have a Reverso and it is one of my favorites but do not find enough situations to wear it. Absolutely love this watch! This photo does not do it justice. Between the guilloche (sp?) and sub dial this thing really pops in real life - and for the price cannot be beat!

The JLC Reverso has no equals. I can't imagine any watch company to build a watch for polo players and be successful. They'd have to find another niche sport to solve a problem for. In that sense the YM is closest because of its special function for sailing.

Its silver around 1938-40 date-wise well the vintage Prince were the first so the modern day are just pretenders.

That is so cool. I’ve been looking at everything Rolex (or so I thought) since buying my 114060 4 years ago. I didn’t know that this watch existed. Thanks for sharing that photo.

Very glad you are looking in to all thinks Rolex makes a refreshing change to what you see mostly on forum lately. Myself been studying the history of the RWC for the past 50 plus years, and when you dig deep there is a lot of history about the Rolex brand.

I’d say OP in terms of origins, DJ in terms of icon-ism. OP and Reverso were both purpose-built to accommodate the physical demands of highbrow activities not accommodated by other watches of the era. As a result, they became popular recognitions of those achievements. In the case of Rolex, DJ eventually supplanted the OP as “the” Rolex, but for this purpose they’re essentially equivalent.

You read well into my question, which I did not elaborate much on. That's my thinking as well.

Many Rolex round cased model are basically built on the foundation of the Oyster Perpertual concept (Explorer, Explorer 2, DJ, DD, Sub, GMT etc). As are Reverso GMT, Duo Face, Moonphase etc that are built based on the basic case design of the Reverso. So the OP and Reverso 3-handers can be considered equivalents in terms of their influences on subsequent models that built off of those foundations.
