The I Didn’t Like It At First, But Now I Own It (and Love It) Thread

Here’s my contribution. Thought the Green bezel on the 16610LV was too quirky, now I think it’s just right. My favorite Submariner Date.

For me it was the Submariner. I thought the Datejust was the one. Now I only own Submariners! lol

116900. I saw it in the case back in 2016 or so, and I thought it was ugly. Went in to buy a Pelagos in 2018, and walked out with this instead. I've since sold it. I wouldn't say I regret selling it, but sometimes I miss it. Interested to see what the new one looks like in person.

I was guilty of making judgement before actually seeing a couple of references in person....

The Dblue: at first sight in pictures I thought it looked gimmicky, and I didn't care for the inner ring text.

BLRO, when it was released I was in the "has to be on an Oyster" camp.

Dead wrong in both cases

Both look great - the gradient dial on the DSSD is something else.

Hulk and the Explorer for me (well technically I hated the 39mm but jumped at the chance for the 36mm and love it).

To be honest, I didn’t like any of the sport models when I used to window shop at Rolex many years ago as a child. I was always fascinated with the Datejusts; as that’s what I identified Rolex with

Same for me. Now I only own Sport Models. Although I would entertain owning a DJ if I didn't also want more Sport Models!

Several for me. The ones below were late to the collection. Many that I thought I'd love didn't last. That is more common in my experience.

Those are three models that have definitely grown on me over time. I know many prefer the Z-Blue Milgauss, but I think I actually like the Black dial GV best.

For me it was the 116660 DSSD.
At first I admired the watch but the layout of the font on the MK I dial didn't sing to me.
When i stumbled upon the MK II, i thought i could live with the watch going forward so I bought it straight away which is something I had never done with any watch before.
I currently only have the MK II black dial as well as the JC and couldn't be happier with where I've landed with Rolex and to cap it all off, I never ever thought I'd own a Sea-Dweller after trying them on occassionally over the years

When the 116610LV was first introduced I thought it looked horrible. Saw it in person and fell in love and bought it immediately.

Not so much from a looks perspective, but when I was awaiting a SS Daytona, I laughed with my AD that the platinum one was a lot of extra money for a blue dial. A few months later, I tired of waiting for the SS one and that was that.

When the DSSD first came out I thought it looked ridiculous, couple of years later I tried it on and bought it straight away

Not that I didn't like it, but I thought the 126710BLRO with Jubilee bracelet was a bit too shinny and colorful for me. It is still the most vibrant piece I own today and now I really enjoy wearing it.

I still have the same mental block for TT/PM pieces, but I can see myself venture into that territory soon.

Purchased in about 2016, turned up and I immediately didn't gel with it. Put it in the safe and didn't wear it much for a while. Got it out and wore it for an entire summer as my main watch and fell in love with it.

Put so much wear on it during the summer I sweat right into the leather strap.

The reason why I didn't like it was because I was use to 40mm / 11mm thick sports watches, with some rugged heft. This is dainty, flat footed and delicate. Its charm eventually won me over.

It opened the flood gates for a lot more dress watches.

It’s a beautiful piece. My very first swiss watch. A gift from my mother in 2012. I wore this watch exclusively for 4 years and I absolutely loved it. Played many rounds of golf with it (probably not a good idea in hindsight but it worked out fine).

Entered the safe as I acquired more watches. Recently my mother took it out and started wearing it.

That’s a huge entry into Swiss watches. Nicely done. Did she choose it herself or did you have some input?

This watch is like nothing else that I own. It reminds me of what’s possible with mechanical watches, finished to a high standard, running some of the best movements in extremely thin cases. You could argue it’s the personification of Swiss watch making before you get into flex movements either from a technical or decorative perspective.

At least you get to see it often on her wrist.

Definitely the RG-YM-40
It’s pretty awesome on the wrist - little bit of flash, but not too much. Timing bezel. Date. Super comfortable.
