True collectors and the tanking Rolex market

How many of you will still squeeze the trigger once the market burns out ?

I personally only have a couple more I want as it is but truth be told, I kind of like the anticipation and waiting game of getting an in demand piece at retail. I still will buy what I want at MSRP but walking in and getting it whenever I feel like will definitely have a different feeling.

Maybe the new fun will be working to get a discount at the AD in the near future.

If 116518 Newman dial comes close to msrp I’ll pull the trigger. I’ve been waiting too long

Maybe more will become available now that buying has slowed?

I will be thrilled to buy one from an AD or a trusted dealer close to MSRP but I think it’s wishful thinking.

It has slowed and some dealers are scared of the uncertainty but Rolex pricing isn’t going to tank.

IMHO over the long term Rolex pricing will trend up.

Just not interested in the modern rolex offerings. I feel the new versions are charactures of the 4/5 digits that built the brand. I am much more drawn to the tudor offerings in the past few years. Now, if the 5 digit GMT market tanks, I may pull the trigger.

Even if Rolex return to selling under MSRP like it was when I got into it, I will still be buying and enjoying watches that interest me. Nothing would have changed.

I’m on the other end of the spectrum. So for me the market doesn’t matter as I’ll buy MSRP almost exclusively.

Wanting what’s not easy to get (FOMO) is about 50% of the current demand. If that dynamic were to go away it won’t be a soft landing for the greys and a rude awakening for the ADs. For those of us who’ve never paid over retail not much will have changed.

I’m enjoying watching it come down some. Lots of vintage and neo vintage I got my eye on. Unfortunately it seems to be mostly the new stuff that’s coming down in price.

Market doesn’t bother me. MSRP from my local AD or nothing. If I want to spend double What a Rolex is worth then I will buy brands like Moser, Lange

I doubt the market is going to crash and burn though…still way too much demand for the supply

Would you buy grey if they had Rolex at under MSRP?

I can't wait for the day I can walk into my AD and not only buy the no date sub I've been wanting but demand the snooty manager knock off enough a discount to offset tax.

The way things are going in the world I have a feeling that day might come sooner than a lot of people think.

Absolutely. No way the “good old days” of 10 years ago is coming back. Those days are long gone. Newbies can believe they are right around the corner and I get that disparity can produce mirages of hope but time and the reality of no Rolex will beat them back to a game change.

It eventually did it to me and many other long time players in the Rolex hobby. We came from decades of Rolex experience insisting times we’re going to get better and go back to the msrp old way much like cell phones were a passing fad.

The new rules have been set by the AD’s in moving their other undesirable jewelry in hopes of a Rolex purchase. The Rolex is the carrot and the new rules have already been established and accepted by the public to jump through hoops. There’s no way they’re going to go back to the way it used to be 3+years ago. Most AD’s still won’t even put your name on a list for a friggen DJ41. You are going to spend serious coin to get a regular professional model like a black Sub and put in some time waiting. Your top tier SS Professional models are only possible for their mega spenders. Normal enthusiast don’t stand a chance.

Things will slow down but you’re still not walking in and getting a hot watch (99%) of the time.. shelves will slowing come back with TT, ladies, PM, diamonds, then DJ, DD, that sort of thing. Getting a SS professional will still be for the initiated

The Rolex market will never “tank”. IF/when you can freely walk in to a AD and buy a high volume SS DJ41 might be a sign we are getting back to the Rolex market of 3 years ago. We are not even close to that yet. The good old days of msrp are laughably gone.

"True Collectors" don't have any issues. Collecting is a lifelong passion and the hunt is just as satisfying as finding another prize. True Collectors aren't Internet shopping for the latest hot models because of FOMO.

And, what "tanking Rolex market"? There is a years long list of buyers for every watch that Rolex makes, and a robust secondary market for all the classics.

Do you consider a 25% price slide and trending higher, robust ? I don't.

There hasn't been a 25% price slide, you are posting fake news.

Bad news ;Your stocks are more likely to crash than Rolex .

(The stocks go up again ,eventually ..)

Rolex is always be an object of worth ,it also tell you the time and will give you great pleasure and serve you well for your lifetime .

Precisely! Nothing will change much neither for me nor for market as a whole. Hope that will at least make AD a bit more flexible and customer-friendly.
