Incoming with a twist

So here’s the twist I was offered two watches a sub with the green Ceramic bezel or a gmt root beer (I will post a pic on which one I picked). So as I’m buying it I am paying some cash and the rest by credit card. So everything goes fine credit card goes through and they take my cash no problem now they size the watch and I put it on as I’m going to wear it out. Now me and my wife are sitting there waiting for my SA to come back as she is gone for a extended period of time. When she comes back she tells me that she can’t sell me the watch right now because she can’t finish the warranty paperwork due to a hold on my account (still don’t know what that means) but she will call me on Monday to let me know what the problem is as it’s Saturday. Now I have to take the watch off and they put it in the box and bring it to the back. Now I’m upset and my wife is pissed off and they say that when filling in the warranty info (on the computer) that they can’t complete the transaction because of the hold on my account. In the end about an hour and a half they said I they fixed the problem and I went home with my new watch but does that sound weird to any one.

No because I had already signed the credit car receipt for the watch that’s why they sized it.

This usually happens at the least convenient times... I've gotten to where I call my CC company if I am making a large/unusual (for me) purchase or am traveling out of the US. They stopped a purchase once (don't remember what it was) and I was somewhere with no cell reception and it was a bit of a PITA. But when I talked to them finally they mentioned the purchase didn't fit my usual "patterns". They look for unusual activity. And TBH there is almost nothing more liquid than a new Rolex.

Congrats on the watch sorry to hear about the weird experience! Wonder if there was a moment of panic that the LV wasn’t supposed to be for sale or something. Seen this type of thing happen in automotive retail before where someone screws up and sells (or tries to sell) a car that’s supposed to already be sold to someone else. Dunno if that’s it but just guessing; either way glad you got your watch!

Me and my wife both feel that they were trying to get out of the sale or she wasn’t supposed to sell me the watch I never called the CC company because I never got declined they said payment was fine it was on the warranty side.

Did you call your credit a card company and explain what happened. It doesn’t add up to me, as if it was a credit card company, the transaction would be declined right from the outset.

I'm fairly certain it was the credit card company. Yes, the payment went through just fine (because it was within your credit limit and available credit), and you signed the receipt. Then, someone in the Fraud Department at the cc company saw that a larger-than-normal purchase had been made for a luxury product, and flagged it, which put a halt on the sale. Most likely, someone at the cc company contacted the store where you were, and confirmed with them that, yes, indeed it was the actual credit card holder who was there making the purchase with his own card -- not some random dude with a stolen card.

That's why it's always best to call your cc company before you make such a purchase, to let them know that you'll be doing this and that it's on the up-and-up and not a bogus charge.

Congratulations. Watch looks great on you. Probably an issue with your cc company. They can be weird. My last purchase from AD, I had to send two wires. They held the watch for a few days until everything “cleared.” I couldn’t come in to pick it up immediately, so it sat with AD for over a week, which was fine by both of us. I understand they may be concerned, too. Everyone should feel comfortable and good in these big purchase transactions in my opinion.
