Hi I am new to the forum and have a question. I have a Sea Dweller I bought new in 1982 or so. It has been my everyday companion all this time. For the last few months it started losing 5 min a month or so and now it will not keep good time at all. It has never been serviced because I never had a problem with it until now.

1) Did I make a mistake by not having it serviced every few years?
2) Who do you recommend I send it to for service?

Welcome ...I would send it in for service and Rolex with send it back like new. Cost will be $500 plus. Likely more since it has never had the oil changed so to speak.

Yes your watch is very over due for a service I would try Dalton Toledo is a good guy on forum as Dalton. And he has a excellent reputation as a independent Rolex watchmaker.

Could be more than $500 if it has never been serviced. RSC will replace parts that are out of limits.

You live in TExas, and Dallas has one of the best Rolex Service Centers around..

Since you have let it go for over 25 years, expect it to need some internal parts that would have lasted if you had it serviced more regularly..

Yes, but just consider that he should have gotten it serviced 5 or 6 times over the last 27 years. IMHO, it wouldn't matter if Rolex dropped a brand-new movement in his watch. He still has saved money

Thanks for the help. This watch is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
I got it wholesale for 1200 and have worn it no kidding EVERY DAY ALL DAY for 27 years.

Depending on what kind of state your dial and hands are in and whether you like the vintage look, you may want to consider telling Rolex to leave the original dial and hands on your watch

Yes! Also a picture would be nice.
I'd keep the external parts all original and replace necessary parts as needed.

You have done the right thing assuming you don't dive it. I bought my first Sedweller at that time coincidentally in Texas and only serviced it after 8 years and I used to dive it a lot. If you had gotten it serviced every few years you would probably pay less for service this time but you would have also shelled out $500 every time you had it serviced as well. Take or send it to your nearest Rolex Service Center and don't tell them when the last service was just hand it over and they will return it and then you will have what looks and operates like a brand new watch. And it will have a one year warranty as well. It probably will cost you more than $500 but I am guessing not a significant amount more, assuming it is not completely thrashed.

My SD is from 1985 and I sent it in to RSC Dallas a couple of months ago. This is how it came back. They did a great job.

Skullring -- when they serviced it, did they replace any of the Tritium markers/hands with the new Luminova ones? I'm thinking of getting this done to my 1996 watch that has Tritium, but don't know if it's a smart choice for it's value.
